This is one of the few authentic Mexican taquerias in Southeast Florida. Being small businesses they tend not to make it to the normal "Mexican restaurant" searches. I found Taqueria Michoacana simply by noticing it as I drove by.
When we entered we could see the usual horchata (one of my favorites) and juices and the jukebox was playing. Even though it was mid-afternoon on a Saturday there were a number of apparently Hispanic patrons eating lunch. So far so good.
The menus were a bit tattered but the selection was good. We ordered carnitas, one tamal verde, chile relleno and the usual chicken nuggets and french fries for my son.
The horchata was good; I enjoy the variation between restaurants (thank goodness it doesn't taste exactly the same everywhere). The tamal, ordered a la carte, came next. It was plain (not a lot of green sauce) but spicy.
The carnitas were tender and the portion large. The refried beans and rice were also very good; the rice was on the yellow side, presumably from saffron.
My son's chicken nuggets seemed to be the Tyson dinosaur-shaped variety; just fine for his very unadventurous spirit.
As we were already "stuffed" by the end of the meal we took our "to go" boxes and left without trying any desert.
Taqueria Michoacana is a straight-up neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Expect a simple restaurant with good food and you won't be...
Read moreGOT SCAMMED As a tourist in your country, I feel so disappointed after coming to this restaurant. The lady spoke zero english. I don’t mind. I was very patient and wanted to place an order as the reviews were so good. We understand we are not from here. We are tourists. We don’t speak the same language. We speak english. The lady picked up on that right away and maybe was thinking we are dumb lol. She gave us the menus and we asked for some water and some horchata drinks. I just took a sip and she proceeded to tell me that they only accept cash. We were like okay, we can go to the nearest machine get cash and come back later and order and pay. Before leaving, we wanted to pay for 2 horchatas so we asked how much. She said $5 We gave her $20. She bought $10 back. When asked where’s the other $5, she said the price on the menu has changed plus tax. Excuse me?! Anyways, we left without even having anything and paid $10 for NOTHING we consumed.
Edit: Hi, We visited your restaurant on 9/19 around 10:30 - 11:00 am. I am sorry. I do not like complaining but I thought this was necessary to bring to your attention. We ourselves are a million dollar business (restaurant industry) owners, and experiences like this only hurts the business! I wish we could taste your delicious food....
Read moremy family of 4 live 3 min away from here for over 7 years. we found this place by mistake but at first we really enjoyed it. Yes the service is SLOW and server standers are low. some of the more mature servers are average but the one or two young ones are simply terrible. also the food is great!! about 80% of the time too bad the other 20% its so/so. So yes inconsistent. today I called to place a pick up order and was placed on hold for 26 minutes . i had nothing to do so i just left the phone on speaker and listened to them laughing and playing. my wife was shopping and pulled into an empty parking lot and called me. I told her i was on hold so she waled in and told them... they hung up on me without even a word. the food is cost effective and most of the time good.
but there is another restaurant in the same shopping place i have not tried yet.... Im going there next time.. this place...
