Iron Born is what I'd consider 'fast casual', you order at a register, get a table number card, and choose your seat. If you order a drink, you get it from the fountain yourself. Once your food's done it's brought to you and from there you're left alone. I was pretty pumped to see this in Marietta, the atmosphere is great and the speed of service makes it a good option for a quick lunch. The store is clean and modern, and I love the tie in to the 'rail trail' access Marietta is known for. It was pretty hot in there when we came in on opening day, you could definitely feel the heat of the kitchen through the open concept floorplan.
We ordered the Sleeper Skillet, Loaded Baked Potato, Baked Beans and Cheese Curds.
The Sleeper Skillet was good. The portion is reasonable, the mac is pretty average, the brisket was good, and the sauce was great.
The baked potato was good as well, definitely oven baked, and massive. There were dark lines running through the potato where they had stabbed it for steam release, which was somewhat off putting until we realized what they were. Could have used more butter, but that comes down to preference.
The baked beans were good, not super spicy which is our preference. As a side, the portion was fine.
The air fried cheese curds were definitely the weakest part of the meal. I appreciate the desire to air fry, I cant hate that, but they came out very blonde and sort of in a sad sagging pile, not really "golden + crispy" like you might hope for normally. We also found it sort of odd to not have them come with some sort of dip, usually you'd see marinara or a garlic ranch, etc. The combo of air frying and no dip made them a definite skip for next time.
Congrats to Iron Born on opening, we'll be rooting for...
Read moreWe ordered $100 worth of food through Uber Eats, which arrived on time in half hour or so after ordering.
Unfortunately, everything was atrocious, soggy, and made with clearly low grade ingredients, which is a slap in the face given the high pricing in play. Every item.
One example was the pulled chicken loaded nachos, which are made with those basic and generic yellow circle tortilla chips you will find in a paper tray at a high school sports event snack bar or for .99 cents at the bottom of a bin at a discount outlet. These were completely and totally soggy and the BBQ sauce and ingredients used were simply terrible, resulting in just a mound of random ingredients thrown on top of awful chips that did not work together at all. This item alone was $20!
Another example was the brisket sandwich, which despite the high price point was over cooked and rubbery to the point where we had to throw the sandwich in the garbage along with much of the rest of our meal.
The pulled pork skillet was also a supreme let down, which was ultimately just a few shreds of pulled pork thrown on top of a mound some loose corn, watery and over ripe tomato slices, and a few black beans - that's it. The taste here was also awful given the quality of the ingredients and was a massive disappointment.
Simply put, this was one of the worst delivery experiences we've had in a decade in the area and a total waste of money. Recommend staying far away unless you plan to eat on-site, which is almost certainly a better option (and honestly has to be given how bad...
