Four years ago my life changed when I bought my house in Broomall. Yeah yeah the house is cool, but I mean because of my then newly found sunset breakfast spot. I don’t carry cash, but when I do? Immediately I know it will get spent supporting my local dopamine dealer. I don’t know what kind of magic is in that toaster and the employees who prepare my bagels, but I could be running late, stop to get breakfast, and somehow still make it to work early. It’s not the fanciest of places, but it’s the most honest representation of hard work and true passion. The owner is a sweetheart and whether hes slaving away baking or greeting me with the warmest hello in the morning, hes there happily putting in the hours and showing why they are the best. A bagel must hate to see me coming, but these bagels… They get a moment of appreciation before consumption because they have my heart. The flavor is impeccable (blueberry and veggie bagels are my go-to). The texture can’t be beat. Crisp crunchiness yet soft on the inside and no powder nonsense like other surrounding spots in the community. All goodness and no error. The training technique for spreading cream cheese is award worthy - olympic athlete level even application. Not too much, but enough to cover the bagel, balance out the supreme doughy crunch sandwhich, and keep the fresh cream cheese chilled against the toasty outside. One may call me a fan, but I like to say I’m the...
Read moreThere is a lot of history associated with this store and it's owners which I will get to in the later part of my review.
The bagels they make here are properly water boiled and have the right chewy texture you are looking for if you come from Brooklyn. I tried to jalapeno bagel which was constructed well and toasted perfectly. However I couldn't really taste the jalapeno component of it which lost them a star.
The size of the bagels are on the smaller side for what you pay.
While then no longer have a jalapeno cream cheese, they do stock fresh jalapenos which I asked to be diced into the vegetable cream cheese on my toaster bagel and it was fantastic.
For reference, my small coffee and the jalapeno with vegetable cream cheese plus freshly diced jalapenos ended up $5 and change.
You can get their homemade cookies, tart cookies, bagel chips and their own cream cheeses if you wish.
This store is 24 years old and the owners Mike and his fiance Christina are very pleasant to work with. Mike's father was the first person to move from Brooklyn and the Philadelphia area to open the New York bagel shop a few miles away in 1965 on June 3rd. Since then the New York bagel shop has been sold across 5 owners. The original bagel store which Mike runs still boils their bagels as opposed to New York bagel which is changed the original recipe and...
Read moreWe usually love this place, talk it up to family and friends and have been coming here regularly since moving to the area. But after this last experience we won't be back.
Whoever the old woman with black hair and glasses is, can be thanked for that.
We ordered our sandwiches and some biscotti as a treat for family who came in from out of state. We were given our food after we had been standing in the rear of the entry after ordering and paying.
The old woman demanded she put everything in the bag. After proving that we didn't get everything in our bag, she responded with "Well we put everything in there..." And left it initially as, oh well too bad, and was emphatic we were somehow lying.
It was only after we pulled everything out and had proved we already paid that someone else had to walked forward and apologized and helped us.
For 50 cent biscotti... It just seemed really over the top and unnecessary and tense.
As someone else who works within a client experience role, service matters folks, and it costs...
