2021 I’m gonna tell y’all a story. I’ll try to keep it as brief as possible. I wasn’t born in United States. I’m was actually born in Jalpan, a small town in the state of Quéretaro. This place is about 10 hours south of the border from McAllen, Texas. I remember when I was a little boy I used to always wonder what United States was like. I remember seeing all the skyscrapers and big cities in movies and just being so amazed, wondering what it would be like to walk around the streets in places like New York. In 2008, my mother and I finally got our United States resident cards(green cards). I remember that day so clearly. My whole family was so excited about this big accomplishment. We got even more excited when my dad asked us if we wanted to come over to Texas and visit a few places that same day. I had never left Mexico and frankly, the thought of being so far from home made me a bit nervous, but I was also extremely excited and eager to visit a new place. We decided that we were gonna walk across the border rather than drive across simply because of the fact that it’s easier than having to get several permits to able to drive across the border. We had finally made it across the border through all the security checkpoints at around 2:00PM and keep in mind that we had been up since around 5:00AM that morning. Going through the security checkpoints is a very lengthy process. Therefore, we had built quite an appetite and began asking my dad if we could get something to eat. My father smiled and asked, “Do y’all want some Whataburger?” We had no idea what Whataburger was. He decided to take us to the Whataburger in 824 S International Blvd. Hidalgo, Texas, which is right across the border. By God that was the best burger I had ever had up to that point in my life. We moved to East Texas in 2009 and started a new life. Fast forward to 2015. Two years after the debut of the famous Monterrey Melt. It was a late night and we were driving home from visiting some relatives in Tennessee. We still had about two hours left of driving until arriving at our home in East Texas. We pulled into a Whataburger to grab something to eat. ‘Twas the night that I fell in love with the Monterrey Melt. Fast forward to November, 2018. After 10 years of living in United States as a US resident I went through the naturalization process and became a United States citizen. I was happy that day. Had a Monterrey Melt meal to celebrate later that evening. Fast forward to November, 2021. After dealing with some mechanical issues at work on some equipment, I decided that I was going to have a MMM(Monterrey Melt Meal). I thought I knew what a heartbreak felt like...I can’t believe I was so naive and thought I knew real pain. Real pain is when you ask for a Monterrey Melt Meal and you immediately get shot down with eight simple yet hurtful words, “I am sorry. We no longer sell that.” I didn’t come to this country, learned a second language, went through high school and college and become a United States citizen just for y’all to stop selling the Monterrey Melt Meal. For this reason, I am giving it 3 stars. I hope to one day see the Monterrey Melt Meal back in action. Other than that, great staff, great environment. Everyone is extremely helpful and friendly.
Edit:She’s back boiis!...
Read moreSaturday, July 22: Stopped by on my way home to Houston for lunch around 1:30pm. In the past, for many years, every time I would order the Justaburger, it would have onions on it if I didn't ask for it to not have onions. Walking in I met a nice young lady that took my order and I ordered a Justaburger without onions. The young lady told me that the Justaburger did not come with onions. I told her that I am told that all the time but to please just add "no opinions" just in case. She became confused and could not understand and asked if i really wanted the Whataburger Jr. because it has onions. I again repeated that I wanted the Justaburger. The young lady began arguing with me about the onions and telling me about all the other burgers that they had. I explained that I have this conversation with every person behind the counter at a new Whataburger I visit. Instead of taking the order and adding "no onions" (even if it didn't come with onions as she said) she continued to argue with me over the onions. (Actually, this happens about 70% of the time when I order the Justaburger so I'm kinda used to it.) I did get the order made and I paid.
As I was sitting waiting for the meal to be brought to me, the manager came out to me and started asked if I was sure I was ordering what I wanted. I told her that I wanted a Justaburger without onions. She told me that they did not put onions on the Justaburger. I said "OK", then just bring me a Justaburger. All should have been well.
At this point the manager started arguing with me over the onions. She told me that everyone is confused about what it is that I wanted. Again I repeated that I want a Justaburger without onions. She then proceeded to argue about the onions. She insisted that they don't put onions on the Justaburger. I said "OK, then just give me the Justaburger without onions." She apparently took exception to my "with no onions comment" and pressed the issue. I finally told her that if the Justaburger came without onions and I was asking for no onions then there isn't an issue. She was very huffy and returned to the kitchen.
I decided that the manager being so huffy and confused about something as simple as onions, I began to doubt other issues with being served by those who seemed indifferent or confused by my request fo "no oniions". I got a refund and took my...
Read moreThis was my first time here. To start the mens bathroom didn't get a good cleaning other than sweep and wipe down which kinda made me wonder. Then I placed my order and sat down only to witness a well dressed upper middle class father and son go to the counter politely complaining of a bug found in the kids burger, though the mgr and staff didn't see evidence it came from their kitchen so they refunded the meal price and all were happy. I then wondered about my own order so i checked it thoroughly upon receiving it and all was fine but as all staff appeared to be under 25 and mostly minorities, I had to wonder if the bug was maliciously placed in the kids food on purpose by someone as an act against those perceived as white Republican Trump voters s the clientele inside was all white, middle class, middle age to older English speaking people. My food was fine but you can't help but wonder about these things with so many younger people being snowflake leftists who hate having to work and resent those better off. I'd recommend eating there but also suggest you...
