Hunan Palace — Restaurant in Martin

I'm at the owner of the Hunan Palace and he's a very friendly wonderful nice guy. That said let's get to the food. First up is the egg roll. As far as egg rolls go reviewing this from a national perspective this was a three at best. It wasn't too greasy but it wasn't super flavorful. Passable. Egg fried rice. The egg fried rice gets a two as well mostly because it's just rice and scrambled egg no green onions or any other vegetable to give it color and flavor. It didn't taste bad but it definitely wasn't great. Hot and sour soup. I give this one a three and a half. This is a family recipe that we fix a lot ourselves and we know the ingredients and what should and shouldn't be in there quite well. And in the Hunan Palace version it's good but again not great. No wow factor no punch with the sour and no punch with the hot pepper flakes. It could have used a little bit more of the fungus that's customary for this recipe and maybe a little bit more bamboo shoot. But as I said it was okay. The lo mein. Was pretty much just noodles and pieces of chicken. No vegetables no garnishments no great flavor and it draws a one and a half The moo goo gai pan. Now this also is a recipe iFix quite regularly and I'm quite familiar with. and this is one of the best movie guy bands I've had in Middle America. Moo goo gai pan literally means chicken and mushrooms. They had plenty of both as well as the snow peas carrots celery, which are must. But they also had zucchini which I thought was a good way of using local ingredients. It was flavor just right so this one gets a four and a half Stars. Price wise I think they were probably 10 to 25% more expensive than similar restaurants I found in similar towns.

Reviewing Chinese restaurants in the middle America is difficult to do because for the most part most of Middle America doesn't have large Chinese populations where one can enjoy true Chinese food or elegant Chinese American food like people say in California...

response to owner reply below: owner says he ""forgot"" to take off the $2 for the lo mein from my bill, but as I already stated in my review, he NEVER gave me the lo mein that he promised to give me! I had to ask him repeatedly and remind him! Also the restaurant was almost empty (near closing time), I was the only customer, how did he ""forget"" to take off the $2 from my bill that he just talked to me about a few minutes ago??So he forgets to give me the lo mein but he did not forget to charge me for it?? lol How convenient* I've been here twice. First time was great. woman / female owner? she explained the dish to me, was honest and kind. I ordered pork with cabbage same dish both times, second time the male owner? said he was out of white rice, he said he can give me lo mein instead. But when he served pork dish, which is salty, he NEVER gave me the lo mein that he promised, I had to wait a long time, eventually wave down a waitress to get lo mein. Did the man expect me to eat soy sauce pork by itself? When he gave me the bill, he charged me $2 extra for the lo mein, when it should be free. Last time I went here with the woman owner, she did not charge me anything for the white rice because it comes with the dish, the second time male owner said he was out of white rice but charged me extra for the lo mein that he put in place of...

Multiple times we have given this restaurant chance after chance. Take-out is cold, servers are rude if you ever call in and what is the point of putting down what time you want to pick up your order if they make it as soon as that recieve it? Tonight was the last straw. We live about 15-20 minutes away and we ordered take out. Just like every other time, when we pick up, it is at the counter bagged and tied up, ready to go. Hubby gets home with our $30+ order and of course several items are missing. When I call to ask, I am told they are too busy, but that I can come back for my order. I ask did they deliver since they messed up the order. I was told it would be 9:30... I originally ordered at 6:30. In the middle of me talking the owners wife hangs up on me. I call back and she says call back in thirty minutes and hangs up on me again. I call back and I'm hung up on again. I call back and same thing. I call back and speak to another worker. I explain that I'm not waiting thirty minutes.....by the way at this point it is now 7:42...After no resolution, we made another trip to Martin from Dresden. It is now 8:45 and just now back home with our 6:30 meal. Very unprofessional, also, We were told we would get a full refund for our trouble since we made a second trip.
