BurnBox Pizza — Restaurant in Maryland

I stopped by BurnBox Pizza on a Thursday afternoon after leaving work early for a wellness appointment. My son’s daycare happened to be closed that day, so we linked up with his godmother for lunch. I gave my toddler a few options — Chipotle, CAVA, honeygrow — but in true toddler fashion, he wanted pizza. And not just any pizza… VEGAN pizza. As a mom of a child with allergies, finding solid vegan kid-friendly options is no small feat.

We initially considered other spots, but nothing hit right until we found BurnBox in Kettering. It’s located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking, and the minute we walked in, I noticed a sign offering a free Plain Jane pizza when you download their app. You already know I paused entry to grab that deal.

The interior is bold and modern — black, white, and red décor, floor lettering that reads “Good Vibes Only,” and an open kitchen where you can watch your pizza being made fresh. The staff was friendly, greeted us immediately, and helped us with our order.

We ordered the vegan “Plain Jane” for my son and “The Godfather” pizza for the adults. Total was $23.44 before tax/tip. I appreciated the extra touch — once the pizzas were ready, we were asked if we wanted additional toppings. I added some Old Bay to ours and oregano to the vegan pizza.

My toddler loved his pizza so much he prayed over it mid-bite and almost finished the whole thing. That says a lot!

Midway through our meal, I decided to try the wings — 8 wings for $11.49 (half buffalo, half honey lemon pepper). The buffalo wings were my favorite — crispy, juicy, oven-baked, and flavorful without being drenched in sauce. The honey lemon pepper was more of a dry rub but still tasty.

Final thoughts: ✔️ Kid-approved (which is tough!) ✔️ Vegan-friendly options ✔️ Reasonably priced ✔️ Clean, fast, and welcoming atmosphere ✔️ Bonus: For every pizza you purchase, BurnBox donates one to someone in need — I LOVE a business with a purpose!

I was so excited to learn today through a news feed about this new business in the neighborhood and decided to hop over to try out the pizza. I usually go to another chain “make your own” pizza restaurant a little further away.

First, let me say the pizza was good but my experience wasn’t the greatest. I was shocked that the woman pressing the dough had a very loose face mask and her nose was not covered. I quickly asked her to do so and another guest mentioned we should not have to do that in these days and times.

Second, the server fixing the pizza also had her nose uncovered and I mentioned again my discomfort with face masks not being worn properly - she all but ignored me and once she lowered her head the mask was repositioned.

Third, it appeared as though the server was counting the toppings as she made the pizza. I got mostly mozzarella crumbs and when I asked for a little more cheese she mentioned it would be $1 extra. I was completely floored! I want to support this business and I’m known for recommending to family and friends and using for large events. Given our current health concerns, I would recommend ALL staff wear properly fitting masks (KN95 or some other 4-5 ply masks with a nose plate given this is in the food service industry) and be more courteous and responsive to patrons.

Again, I want to support black businesses, and especially those in my neighborhood so I will return next week. I sincerely hope the issues I’ve outlined have been corrected. I appreciate the opportunity to comment. Wishing you...

Their Create your Own Pizza (on traditional crust with spicy red sauce, baby spinach, mozzarella, ricotta, pepperoni, sausage, chicken, mushroom, green pepper, drizzled with hot honey, & ranch $13.49). STAMP!! I went IN!! Create YOUR own & watch it be STAMPED!!

Their Honey Lemon Pepper Wings (with ranch $11.49). DELICIOUS! Plentiful, thick, & sauced up well!!

Their Spinach Rocks Salad (with baby spinach, red onion, bacon, Cherry tomato, blue cheese, candied walnuts, and an orange vinaigrette $9.95). LIKE THAT!! Hearty, & the vinaigrette set it OFF!! .
