Unfriendly, Overcrowded, Understaffed and Rowdy Bar. I went to check this place out because of the good reviews of the food on a Thursday night for the first time.
Before I walked in I was greeted by a black unfriendly officer in uniform who demanded to see my ID before I walked in. I joked around and asked if he was the boucer, as if he was there to break up things if they got rowdy. He replied with an uncomfortable joke, 'No I'm just dressing up for the night.' And then said sternly, 'Yes I am SECURITY.'
I then walked into the bar with an unfriendly elderly black host waiting for me who greeted me in an unfriendly way asking, 'Hello, sir. Are you alone?' I told him I was fine sitting at the bar, and he proceeded to be uncomfortable with trying to find a spot for me to sit since the bar was 'very busy.' He took me to a corner bar stool to seat me and when I said Thank you, he replied 'okay, sir,' and walked away without saying anything.
The rest of the bar was overcrowded with people gabbing which wouldn't be a problem except the staff ignores you and not greet you when you sit down. The final straw when was I walked into the bathroom and the urinals and toilet were filled with beer piss, as no one had mother to flush or clean the bathroom on a busy night, and just left dirty rags on the floor instead. When I went to leave they had locked the door facing the street from the inside just so people couldn't walk in from the street as there was only one unfriendly black elderly host to greet everyone.
I don't care how good the pretzels and beer are. If you're not equipped to be friendly to your guests and encourage them having a good time, then you're taking advantage of potential customers time and money. I trusted my instincts and walked out of there and a potentially rowdy bar. And I'm not surprised if they need security from fighting when people are drunk consistently while being attended to by unfriendly staff who are not even having fun at their job at all. Without even a thank you, you're welcome, have a good night/evening/meal/or drink, or even a welcoming greeting, I will steer clear of this place and simply spend my money elsewhere, at least until management gets their act...
Read moreUsually this is one of our go to places for a random night out for dinner. We went this past weekend for my birthday and I was very disappointed. The restaurant was very very loud and felt like you had to scream in order for the waitress to even hear you. It was very overwhelming for myself and my children. The food also wasn’t up to par like it normally is. I don’t know if they were having a bad day or what but everything just came out horrible. We ordered the pretzel bites with 2 sauces and the pretzel bites were way over cooked, the sauces were hot and melted, the one was supposed to be the honey old bay siracha and it was straight up butter (and we know because we have ordered it several times before). When we addressed it with the waitress she rolled her eyes and was like idk 🤷🏻♀️ what that is. When she came back she said the kitchen said it was some kind of strawberry jam something. I ordered the Reuben sandwhich expecting it to be pretty good since it is a German restaurant and man was I wrong. I could have gotten a better sandwhich at Arby’s. The corn beef was way over cooked and tough, the bread was stale and there was so much sauce on it that everything was a sloppy mess. I told the waitress I wasn’t eating it and again she rolled her eyes as if she was annoyed. To replace the Reuben I just got the sausage platter with the three sausages and again I was disappointed, the sausages were way over cooked and shriveled. Like I said I don’t know if they were having a bad day or what was going on but it was a disaster and I was overall disappointed considering it was my birthday dinner. When leaving one of the staff asked about our experience and we told him about how it was so noisy and he was like I know, there isn’t much we can do, maybe next time ask to sit outside since it’s less noisy. Which might be a good idea if it wasn’t 110 degrees outside and if my husband hadn’t worked outside in the heat all day. Overall just left a bad taste in my mouth. I won’t be returning...
Read moreThe security guard killed the vibe unfortunately. Home from Florida and couldn’t come in because my brother forgot his I’d. We left, went home and got the id, came back and the guard had an attitude with me. Worst part is, I am the designated driver for my brother, cousin, and best friend tonight trying to enjoy my Labor Day weekend. Just ashame that happen since I frequent this place and felt it to be the best place in parkville.
I am glad you will stand up for your employee. If I caused any problems tonight, wouldn’t the manager have heard about it? He basically begged me to say sorry for no reason I just wanted to walk in and not say anything. It was crazy!! And, I said in the initial post I like it here and recommended all the food I have tried but can’t come back now for a waste of time!!
Also, I didn’t bash you until after I had all the right in the world to enter your restaurant but the security guard wanted a second to feel like he was a man. I hate to tell you this but there’s a much bigger world outside of the old Barn and I think the security measure you take is a little steep especially when you can ALMOST enter the front without security being in the way.
My suggestion is get a new security guard I think this one is a little fed up with what the job is.
Last thing!!! I find it soooooo funny you commented on this post but none of the 4 or 5 star posts! (I write great and bad reviews all the time bc I say it how it is based on the experience I had) I am so glad I am no longer a customer here and have already spread the word to family...
