DePaola's used to be my place of choice to stop by and grab breakfast on my way to work, sure the wait was long but you got a good bagel and the staff was friendly. Recently they've hired a new person out at the register that's been very rude and unpleasant in the two times I've had them take my order. The food has also gotten worse, I usually get a bagel sandwich and both that I've gotten in the last two weeks have come out with the bagel completely untoasted, cheese unmelted, and overall disappointing. My last visit I ordered a sausage and cheese sandwich no egg, came home to half the sausage I normally would've gotten on the sandwich and egg, and an untoasted bagel, so overall extremely disappointing. I figured the change in food quality comes from an effort to make their food come out faster, but the difference in quality is not remotely worth it. On top of that it's not the cheapest place to grab a breakfast, which I had no issue with when the food was good and service was excellent, but now is just another disappointing factor on a list of them. Hopefully they can find their form again but for now I recommend...
Read moreI love the idea of having a bagel shop on the Island! I have given DePaula’s multiple chances when it comes to their food and service. The people are as nice as ever, although my friend and I went in on Memorial Day to grab some breakfast. We knew of the holiday and knew there would be wait times of course. I ordered a jalapeño and cheddar bagel toasted with jalapeño cheddar cream cheese. My friend had ordered a plain bagel, toasted with just egg and cheese. I have visited previously and I had noticed that the bagel may have been toasted by the marks I saw. But it was squishy and not hot. This time was unfortunately the same result. My bagel was squishy, not toasted and was overall mush like. My friends bagel was not toasted, the cheese was not even melted and it fell apart. We ordered at 10:15 AM and didn’t receive either one until 11:04. Again, understanding the holiday, I try to be as patient as possible, but that was too much time for something as small as that. Unfortunately I will not be returning for some time but hope they figure it out, would love to see...
Read moreI’ve tried DePaolas multiple times now. I want to love these bagels and will probably keep giving them my business as it’s important to support small local businesses in the area. However, the quality of the bagels is really poor. Although they have good flavor, they are really underdone and chewy. The texture is rubber like. If you’ve had a good bagel from the surrounding area before (i.e. Uber, A Bagel&, even yo java bowl), you’ll understand what I mean. Maybe they could bake the bagels longer (they’re a very white color instead of golden) and also toast them before building the bagel sandwich (it seems like they only warm them on the flat top) the texture would improve! I will say that there are also positives of this store! The bagel sandwich insides have great flavor!!(SEC was delicious). Their cream cheese is pretty good (the veggie is pretty salty though) and they have friendly...
