Positives - young lady at the register was friendly and polite - the restaurant was clean and set up for social distancing.
I'm only giving this two stars because this was not a great first impression. The staff seemed overwhelmed, confused, unorganized. There is a lady who works out front that might be a manager or owner and is just unpleasant, argumentative, borderline rude and lacks accountability. To add to her poor attitude, she didn't explain the differences of the menu items I asked about clearly, I didn't get what I really wanted, and then she tried to back track what she told me I ordered. Regardless of all of that....the food was bland, not seasoned well and we didn't enjoy it at all....it's basically cooked down unseasoned beef and added to beef broth with fresh onions and cilantro. I was really disappointed overall. I knew I wasn't at Chipotle or Taco Bell......and wasn't looking for that type of food......but honestly would have enjoyed eating there instead. Management, communication, customer service and teamwork is lacking.
I wanted something fresh and real and authentic. I'm so disappointed because I really had high hopes. From the service to the quality of the food.....I was just really let down. I would love to support this local businesses but I can't see...
Read moreI came from a huge project around the corner and ask for guidance about the menu, saw the chiken tacos for $8 and cents and the asada tacos for a cuplé of cents more, ask the lady in the front (cashier) if I could please have one asada and one chicken taco she said that if el was not possible if I wanted to do that I had to get two different orders go 4 tacos that I wasn’t going to eat and $18, I ask her why couldn’t she just change and give me one and one, she told me she was going to loose money if she did that. (Like a a dollar) I told her that it was ok to charge me for the asada I was going to pay more or even charge me for one more tac, it was ok I wanted to try both but was NOT GOING TO EAT 4 tacos, she reduce that’s scream for a guy name Alberto Roberto he said he was the manager and that his bosses rules had to be fallowed. I asked him if for ONE CHIKEN TACO he was going to lose a customers and get a bad review was worth it, for him and for his “bosses”, he said he didn’t care and that it was ok for me to give him a bad review,. And to do whatever I wanted. Terrible customer service and I really hope people don’t waste their time or money on this place you have to pay like a lot of money if you want to try...
Read moreOn a winter evening during the pandemic, my little family and I ordered pickup from this small taco shop inside a strip mall in Camp Spring, a 15-minute drive from our home in Southeast D.C. The Washington Post's "Best Casual Restaurants in 2020" list brought us to El Papi and we're glad it did. Here's our experience:
Safety: They've transformed their space into a clean, safe distance space during the pandemic. Arrows on the floor guide you where to go and where to stand keeping distance from others. Masks are required and staff are wearing masks and gloves.
Food: The signs on the walls make it clear what they do and don't do. They focus on Mexican street tacos and have a small, yet mighty taco menu. The tacos come in corn tortillas and never flour (don't even ask reads a sign). Yelp directed us to the queso birria red tacos and they were great. However, the carne asada tacos were the winners with bold flavor. The elote is well prepared and very tasty too!
Service: The staff are friendly and work hard to prepare each dish with care.
Accessibility: There's a parking lot in front of the taco shop with plenty of...
