My mother and I visited the Jessup restaurant for lunch just after 1PM today. There were 2 tables with 2 diners each and a woman who walked in just ahead of us for carryout. There was no one at the front of house/hostess table, but several employees standing and sitting in the back corner. A couple of them saw us but didn't acknowledge us. We discussed going elsewhere but I was curious to see if things would get better. We were not so lucky.
Once we were acknowledged and seated, it took nearly 10 minutes before we saw our waitress to order our coffee. By then, we were ready to order. Several minutes later, we got our coffee. This proved to be the best part of our meal.
I ordered a quick two egg breakfast and my mother ordered sausage gravy over biscuits, both with hash browns. My mother also ordered extra gravy on the side. Only one other couple came in after us, so the restaurant was at about 2:1, employees to diners.
Our meals were served, just barely warm after almost 25 minutes. The hash browns were literally cold, seemingly precooked, refrigerated, then heated as ordered. My two slices of toast were cold. My bacon was cooked perfectly, just not hot. Both eggs were nearly cold with one of the yolks broken.
My mother's meal was mostly cold... the sausage, the gravy, making it less than appetizing for her. Another 10 minutes later, the waitress appeared with the extra gravy, apologizing for the delay as they were making a fresh batch of gravy. The only problem was that while the dish was hot, the gravy was as cold as the gravy already on her plate.
As soon as we saw the waitress again, we asked her to heat the entire plate in a microwave oven. She took the plate, returning in a short time with her meal. The plate was noticeably warmer but the food only marginally. By the time the waitress took my mother's plate to heat up, I was already finished my meal.
I'm a guy and I was hungry and I rarely send food back. I just usually don't return to the offending restaurant, which I think is how I'm going to handle this experience.
Ironically, you used to have a waiter there who was remarkable, friendly, quick and attentive, even in a crowded restaurant and I have been taking my family there for years. How service and kitchen can both be so bad in the same visit, with a near empty restaurant is beyond sad.
Maybe I'll try again in a year or so. Maybe...
Read moreI worked here for about a month and the manager and some employees are terrible and extremely unprofessional. To start off the welcoming and training was horrible and uncomfortable but employee/afternoon manager Shawna was amazing and made it the best she could. There are roaches all over the kitchen, they pour new ice over top of dead roaches in the ice box. I hardly ever seen anybody wash their hands, food is touched with bare hands. I watched employee Marcella pull hair out of food and still give it to a customer. The manager Teresa takes tables when managers are not supposed to. Speaking of Teresa she’s a terrible manager! When I started she did nothing but be rude and nasty to me the other 2 managers moe & yansi told me she “ does that to everyone “ & I have to “ get used to it she will get over it “ amongst other employees who said she only does it to new female employees for attention seeking reason and all the females have been through it. For the month I worked here Teresa and Marcella did nothing but harass me because they don’t like me when I don’t even know them and talk about me in their language. While also having their cook friends play with my orders & be rude because they don’t like me! Today Teresa threatened and harassed me my whole shift until I finally snapped! The manager moe watched it all and laughed with them & told me I have to accept it because “ people come from different cultures and this is how they are “ He then proceeded to threaten to write me up for verbally defending myself but didn’t do the same for them when they started with me! because they’re like a “ family “. Then proceeded to fire me because I finally stuck up after myself after making verbal complaints the whole time I’ve been working here with him & yansi! Which they have not once documented. The night manager Brian is good at his job but makes very inappropriate & disgusting comments towards me and drinks alcohol on the shift and encourages others to do the same because he’s “ cool “. I would not recommend this place to work or eat all around the board they are very disgusting! And not to mention pay is supposed to be biweekly but I’m missing a check from base pay and will be going back to see about it with support with me because they give jumping vibes. Teena, Shawna, Samanta, & Carlos are all great employees. They need new management & a exterminator here! Or to just...
Read moreThis was really bad. Ordered on the app and for car pickup, but once you arrive at the restaurant, you quickly realize they’re only 2 car spots for car side to go, and those cars had been there for some time, and you’ll have to go in regardless if you requested the food be brought out to your car.
I went into the restaurant, and there are lots of people waiting. There are to-go orders waiting to be picked up, but no one is there to assist you. This creates a problem, because everyone with a to-go order, ends up touching all of the orders that are waiting, and it is unsanitary to have anyone and everyone having access to your food.
No one greets you and there’s very little help. You can see servers taking foot to people at the tables, but no one is really paying attention to customers that have just walked in. When they finally realize there are customers, you are told, continuously, that your order is finishing up. The thing is, they probably haven’t even gotten around to preparing it, and the wait is indicative of that fact. This was not a special order either. We’re talking pancakes and bacon.
Anyone that had a to-go order, or needed to order to-go, had a very very long wait. You’re better off, getting seated and having your food brought to the table, and then asking them to take it to go. Many people that were seated after I had been waiting for my online order, already had their food, and by the time I finally got my to-go order, they were finishing up and leaving. I would probably still be waiting, if I had waited on someone to bring the food to my car, as was my original plan. I waited over an hour for an order that I was placed online.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. They are too slow and they aren’t organized. They probably had more people bussing tables than to help the customers walking into the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and purser from Silver Diner, that’s just across 95. If you’re ordering to go, they are really good about brining your food out to you in a...
