I just had a terrible experience at a restaurant with a server wasn't present, terrible service, food was subpar at best, expensive seafood platter, the most expensive thing on the menu, barely had any seafood in it and just gobs of pasta. The wine was overpriced, the food was overpriced, and the food sucked. I was in and out of there in 10 minutes by myself and it cost $60. Can you write me a review for this restaurant, the name is Mangiaebevi, in Urbana, Maryland.

Title: Disappointing Dining Experience at Mangiaebevi
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5)
Review:
My recent visit to Mangiaebevi in Urbana, Maryland, left me utterly disappointed and dissatisfied. From the moment I stepped in, the absence of a server set the tone for a dismal dining experience. Despite the high expectations set by the menu, the reality fell far short.
Opting for the supposedly luxurious seafood platter, the most expensive item, I anticipated a culinary delight. However, what arrived at my table was nothing short of a letdown. The so-called "seafood platter" was predominantly pasta with scarce traces of seafood, hardly justifying its exorbitant price tag.
To exacerbate matters, the wine selection was grossly overpriced, further adding to the financial burden of the already lackluster meal. The rushed service only compounded my dissatisfaction, as I found myself in and out of the restaurant within a mere 10 minutes, leaving behind a hefty bill of $60.
In summary, Mangiaebevi failed to deliver on every front – from service to cuisine. I would caution any prospective diners against expecting anything remotely resembling a satisfying dining experience at this establishment. Save your time and money for a more deserving venue elsewhere.

You add in that it was awkwardly silent with new music playing. You could hear all the conversations all around you like you were sitting at their table.

Adding insult to injury, the ambiance was marred by an awkwardly silent atmosphere, accentuated by the absence of any background music. This lack of auditory camouflage made every conversation around me painfully audible, as if I were an unwelcome guest at neighboring tables.

Reservations Mangia e Bevi does not take reservations unless the party is large. While I would personally prefer the option to reserve a table regardless of party size, this is a minor inconvenience that does not significantly affect the overall dining experience. Stars: N/A
Exterior & Interior Appearance From the street, the restaurant presents an inviting look that encourages consideration. However, once inside, the main dining room feels dated and lacks warmth, which detracts from the initial impression. In contrast, the outdoor patio is a delight: warm, charming, and a unique blend of countryside and city atmosphere that feels welcoming and comfortable. Still, the patio is season-dependent, and I would not consider it an option in winter. Stars: 3
Reception The host who greeted us set the tone with charisma and a warm smile, making us feel genuinely welcomed. This small but important detail elevated the first moments of the visit. Stars: 3.5
Service – Order Taking Our server was kind, patient, and highly skilled in communication. Their recommendations were spot-on, and their professional demeanor enhanced the experience. Stars: 3.5
Table Comfort Despite the large patio with only a few tables occupied, the table we were given felt uncomfortably small. Dining space is an essential factor for comfort, and we felt crowded when we should not have. Stars: 1.5
Main Courses Among four guests, each chose a different entrée, and each plate impressed. Execution, flavor, and presentation reflected a high level of culinary skill. Judged by the food alone, Mangia e Bevi stands out. Stars: 4
Bread & Oil Commentary The restaurant offers bread with spiced oil, but it must be ordered from the menu rather than provided as a standard courtesy. While nothing in hospitality is truly “free,” many establishments present this gesture without prompting. In my opinion, it would feel more natural and hospitable to offer it upfront. Stars: N/A
Cocktails My wife ordered a margarita, which she found to be quite acceptable. While not a standout drink, it was well-balanced and enjoyable, complementing the evening without overshadowing the meal. Stars: 2.5
Desserts The tiramisù was attractively presented but ultimately underwhelming in flavor. Given the Italian identity of the restaurant, this was somewhat disappointing. Stars: 2.5
Espresso I ordered an espresso not out of habit at 9 p.m. but as a test. In my view, an Italian restaurant should always offer a respectable espresso—it is part of its cultural identity. This one was solid, though not exceptional. Stars: 2.5
Final Assessment Mangia e Bevi excels in its main courses, offers warm hospitality, and shines with its outdoor patio. Yet, shortcomings in table comfort, dessert quality, and interior design prevent it from reaching its full potential.

Read moreUnfortunate to write this as I have been to Mangia Bevi many times in the past and have had wonderful experiences here! I brought my husband here this evening and was looking forward to a yummy meal and a glass of wine. We arrived just a few minutes after 8:00 on a Saturday night well aware they close at 9:00. A couple dining in with an hour before closing is 100% reasonable, don’t you think? We stood at the podium upon arrival and SEVERAL servers and employees glanced at us and simply walked away. Eventually a young man approached us and said “I just have to get the table ready” there was no greeting or hello- in fact he didn’t bother asking how many people were in our party and just assumed we were 2. Next, we were seated inside and sat for well over 5+ minutes before being greeted by our grump of a server. She took our drink orders, then took our food orders which were prompt and easy (we didn’t ask for much!) mind you it’s still not even 8:20PM. 40 min till close. Our waitress proceeded to go on the patio which was a clear view from our table and close up every single umbrella and lean chairs against the table while we’re waiting for our food. The vibe was we were a complete inconvenience and she couldn’t wait to get out of there. Meanwhile, in walks a couple at 8:30 pm. Our waitress must have known them because she greeted them with a big smile and made room for them by opening a table she had already closed on the patio. She proceeded to chat with this couple and give them wine samples as we sat inside and eventually our food came and we were finished eating by 8:40. Bill came to $83 for 2 drinks, bread, and 2 meals. I left her 20% because I’ve worked in the restaurant business and it’s the right thing to do- but this was disgusting service and professionalism by our waitress. One of the hostesses was very friendly and the girl that brought us our food was a delight. Food was decent but nothing to go crazy over. We will never be back. We were in the truck headed home at 8:53. Be...
