Recently attempted to order a “predesigned” cake for pick up in two days time. Looking back on it now, I understand why that might have been an issue, but I assumed if it was a problem, the bakery would not confirm the order. I assumed that it being a predesigned cake, they had faster turn around time. I received an email that the order was confirmed the following day and I thought every thing was fine.
The next day, I drove an hour to the bakery on the date of pick up to find the cake not available because I had “not followed the instructions on the website.” They require two weeks notice for “predesigned cakes.” This was the first I had heard of this but I have worked in the service industry before so I didn’t make a big fuss. Somehow, I had made a mistake and I understand the issue with time, etc. I shouldn't have assumed this short turn around was possible, but I didn’t think much of it as I thought they might make these predesigned cakes ahead of time.
The reason I felt compelled to write a review is the extent to which the bakery was defensive and belittling for making this mistake. “It’s clearly on the website,” they said to me incredulously, multiple times, while I stood in shock. They did not immediately suggest a refund or try to help me come up with a solution for my mistake. I did not blame the bakery once, raise my voice, or make a scene, just stated, in confusion, that I had received a confirmation email so I thought the order was good to go.
The response back had the tone of “how could you be so stupid to think we could make that turn around time?” In shock and disappointment, I asked for a refund and, thankfully, they complied. They seemed relieved I asked for the easy way out and they did not have to fulfill my order. They did not seem disappointed to lose my business or a customer. It was after all this, they finally attempted to sell me another cake…after belittling me for a mistake so common, they immediately knew what happened? No thanks.
After my long drive home, I looked at the website to figure out where I went wrong. Surely, I couldn’t have missed such a large disclaimer?? I found there are multiple pages under “predesigned” cakes. The first page, “order here,” has the disclaimer. The second page “predesigned cakes” does not. Both have links to place an order for the cake. I did not go through the “order here” page. In addition, the cake order form and payment pages do not include the disclaimer. I never saw the disclaimer when I ordering my cake. I would suggest the bakery sort this out so other hopeful customers don’t have to drive home in tears after being embarrassed for an honest,...
Read moreI judge a wedding by its cake…and that is why I highly recommend Sage Cakery. We asked for a vegan 4-tier traditional white cake (with half the cake having raspberry filling) and Sage Cakery made us the very best, most beautiful cake that I have ever seen. It looked AMAZING and was the best tasting cake EVER!!! I cannot tell you how many guests affirmatively commented on the VEGAN buttercream!!!! And the cake itself was so tasty and moist that most guests did not believe it was vegan!!! Seriously, from the moment of our first email to Ally through the tasting and a growing guest count, Ally and her team always responded immediately and with joy and excitement. The cake arrived at our outdoor venue in perfect condition…with fresh flowers and our white rabbits wedding topper. The cake stayed in stellar condition until after dinner and, again, was the moistest and most yummy cake that we have ever tasted. Everything about Sage Cakery is stellar…they are thorough, professional, kind and pleasant.. and made everything so fun and easy. We could not be more pleased with their artistry and culinary talent…and that sentiment is shared by our family/friends...
Read moreWe used Sage Cakery for our wedding this past April (2024), and I would highly recommend them to anyone!! We decided to go with Sage Cakery because they made the cake for my husband's cousin's wedding, and he said the flavors were incredible and unique (sadly, I didn't get to try this cake). We started with our consult/tasting - we met with Ally, and she was so sweet and helpful! We tried cupcakes of some of the most popular flavors, and they were very good. We talked over design, and Ally was very accommodating, and had a great vision of what we were looking for, because we definitely needed some help! Our cake ended up looking exactly how we wanted it to. For our flavors, we did three tiers - early grey on the bottom tier, blackberry sage in the middle, and orange ginger for the top. We thought the flavors would complement each other nicely and they did! The flavors were definite crowd pleasers, but still unique, which is exactly what we were looking for. The cake tasted so good, was a very reasonable price, and looked beautiful! Sage Cakery was so easy to work with and we would definitely work...
