Phil’s Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Maryland

The place appears a bit off the beaten path when you get to it, but fortunately there is parking and it’s easy to find. Was welcomed by the bartender who served as the waiter, cashier, host and generally Jack of all trades. I even thought he was going to be making our meal. Fortunately the chef was busy in the back and clearly knew the craft.

There are not enough good things to say about the meal which started off with an appetizer of authentic Kenyan sausages, which are the best in the world, hands-down. This was then followed by goat curry (mbuzi) with kale (sukuma wiki) and ugali (maizemal) which tasted as if it had been made straight from a kitchen back in Nairobi. They even had fresh pili pili (green hot pepper) on the side for that extra kick.

Will definitely visit again and wash the meal down with the frothy waters of Belgium. The seating was comfortable and the televisions were not too loud. They even had a pool table for those so inclined to mix games with a good meal.

Phil's bar is not just a charming local bar, but it can transform into an amazing venue! I recently celebrated a birthday and the bar was completely transformed into an amazing party space, decked out with lights, dj station, and elegant birthday decor. Being a neighborhood staple, customers joined in on the fun with the utmost respect to party goers. The venue was clean, spacious with savory food alongside good (and expedient) bartending and wait service. Will def recommend this place for having a party or related celebrations!...

The drink menu online didn't match what was actually served. I had to describe a particular non alcoholic beverage to the bartender. She never heard of it. The cook was not there so we couldn't try the cuisine. The bartender was nice and let me have a free sprite. We ended up eating at the restaurant...
