Rieve's Deli — Restaurant in Maryland

I struggle to find the words to express my absolute delight in finding a deli in MD that offers a few breakfast stapes that could help ease my homesickness for my homestate- NJ.

Rieve's Deli is the only place I've found so far in my 14 years in MD that offers a porkroll, egg, and cheese on a kaiser roll! I really could not believe it. My friend and I called in an order one Saturday morning for a porkroll, egg, and cheese for me, and a scrapple, egg, and cheese for him (he's from Philly and was equally as excited!).

This place is kinda hidden, but Google Maps will get you there. Follow the signs to the Walgreens if you're feeling unsure.

I ran in to get our sandwiches and the inside is a cute little convenience store. Our order was ready upon my arrival, I paid and was out the door in a minute or two.

Neither of us could wait to get home to try these sandwiches we'd both been craving for years. Our expectations were admittedly high, but I'd have to admit we were both a bit disappointed. The kaiser roll, egg, and cheese portion of mine was just as I remembered. There were only about 2 thin slices of porkroll though. If you're accustomed to the traditional type of PEC sandwich from NJ, you'll want to double, or maybe even triple the meat.

My friend had similar feelings about his scrapple, egg, and cheese. Everything but the meat was great. The scrapple seemed overcooked, and had little flavor. He also would ask for extra meat on his sandwich next time.

So I have been visiting this location for over 15 years on and off. When I walked in deli I notice the cooks had no gloves on. One had taken an order over the phone and went right back to cooking. Prepping food with no gloves on these days is not healthy or sanitary. I asked if they could use gloves ro prepare and I got excuses. Well the health department is full aware of how we prepare our food and we been in business for 25 years. So I had check state requirements and he is not right and I'm sure they have gloves they put on when the health department shows up. I came here on my lunch break to get a salad. As my salad was being prepared, a lady was using a rag to wash the counter and used the same rag to clean a cutting board. The guy handed her 2 eggs, the eggs that was to go in my salad, she proceeded to peel the eggs with the gloves on that she used to clean the counter and cutting board with. She washed the eggs off with the gloves on which defeated the purpose because they were still in her hands with the dames gloves after they were washed off.
