We ordered a large pepperoni pizza and two chicken shawarma platters.
The pizza is okay. I feel as though the top of the pizza wasn't cooked enough to get that very light golden brown appearance. The crust of the pizza is okay. The tomato sauce is uninspiring, not necessarily flavored or seasoned. They put a lot of mozzarella cheese on the pizza but the volume of cheese throws off the balance of the pie. It's too much cheese per bite.
The chicken shawarma was also okay. The chicken was chopped into dime to quarter-sized pieces and was well-seasoned. The chicken (maybe because the pieces are cut so small) was a little bit dry. Fries were good. Salad was good, but I really wish they did not top the salad with pickles. I'd say 30% of people don't like pickles so much and it unfortunately bleeds the flavor into the rest of the salad. The bread to wrap the chicken was...okay. It didn't have a composition that wowed me. And for the price of 16 dollars, it made the overall value of the meal okay, nothing to blow you away.
Overall I think the experience is a 3.7/5. Mind you, this experience may have been below the typical average because we ordered 40 minutes before close. But first impressions do last. I think I would lean more toward some of the surrounding Redland restaurants as places to visit with potentially better flavor and consistency. Pizza is definitely superior at Pizza Rosa but nothing else compares...
Read moreThe service at Sasuns is always warm and caring. Thank you Vatche for always being so welcoming and going the extra mile to ensure clients get a great meal. This is a great restaurant for take out, but you can also eat indoors or outside on the deck. A personal favorite is the chicken shawarma; tasty, nicely seasoned with delicate spices, wrapped in a very thin warm flat bread. Exactly how it should be made and truly delicious. The hummus, falafel, and kibbeh are magnificent. The greek salad is always freshly made and quite generous. You can top it with chicken, gyro meat, or falafel. If you love meat, try the Whole Beef Kebab and savor the seasoning and quality of the filet. Vatche, the gentle owner, continues to surprise us with his delicious cuisine. We keep going back weekly. This cozy little restaurant is a hidden gem in Redland. Stop by - you'll be happy you did. On Tuesdays chicken shawarmas are on special and on Thursday, the special is Gyro. Venture out a little and try the Falafel Sandwich. It won't disappoint. It is crispy, nicely seasoned, and you can add yogurt sauce or tahini. There are also burgers, fries, and pizza on the menu. Parking is plentiful and located behind...
