We have ordered from this place for years, but it went downhill some time recently.
Our order arrived cold, which has never been an issue before. When I called to explain it, the owner (manager?) immediately escalated, telling me that nobody else had complained about the food, and saying he would come to my house and we can look at the food and see how cold it is. No thanks. Extremely rude and inappropriate.
I drove the food back and dropped it off at the front, where they asked me to stay so the rude person in the back could come out and talk to me.
After insisting that I calm down (while I stood there calmly), he continued to carry on about the temperature of the food and the timing of the kitchen and deliveries, and even took my bag of food to the back to examine it.
This was a bad experience with a manager that should have responded in good faith instead of immediately making the situation worse. I left the food at the counter.
And finally, in an amusing “you-can’t-fire-me-I-quit” turn, they had the poor kid up front call me later to tell me they can’t take orders from me any more.
Also, remember—the food was cold. That’s not the customer’s fault. Sometimes stuff sits out and gets cold, or someone doesn’t cook it long enough. That’s understandable. The childish and petty behavior from the man in charge was the problem. I would advise spending your...
Read moreI have nothing but good things to say about Gourmet Asian Bistro (7224 Muncaster Mill Rd, Derwood, MD 20855). It offers Chinese, Thai, and sushi. I've eaten there 3 times in the past 2 weeks, and it's been excellent every time and affordable!
The vegetable tofu soup ($2.95) is huge, satisfying, and full of veggies. The wonton soup ($2.95) has 3 good sized wontons. Both soups come with a bowl of tastier-than-average fried wonton strips on the side that I end up munching on during the entire meal. The sizzling black pepper beef ($16.95?) was tasty, but I was more impressed by the noodle dishes. The beef chow fun ($14.95?) and the Singapore mei fun ($13.95) were beautifully seasoned and cooked perfectly. I've also gotten the salmon nigiri ($5.95?) a couple times, and it's generously portioned and fresh with great quality salmon.
Every meal ends with a complimentary tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream and fortune cookie. There are plenty of good Chinese restaurants in MoCo, but Gourmet Asian Bistro is my current favorite for best...
Read moreI am giving this 5 stars because I've had so much bad Chinese food (albeit Americanized Chinese dishes) in this area, I was thrilled to have every dish taste great.
For our first carry out order we got the typical orange chicken, Gen. Tso's chicken, Hunan chicken (such good flavor but not overly hot which was perfect for me), combo fried rice, and green Thai chicken curry. Also spring rolls, which were enjoyed by my adult son -- but the crab Rangoon didn't have any discernible crab in it...they were tasty cream cheese bites, more like.
The second carry out included some of the above plus the Thai drunken noodle combo and the Malaysian samosas. Both a nice addition.
Each time they said the order would be ready in 15-20 minutes and when picked up, everything was hot and ready for pick up. The portions are generous and the veggies fresh (broccoli cooked perfectly and so tasty). The chicken, no matter how prepared, were tender and not overcooked to little rock-like bits.
I look forward to working my way...
