I've had food from Suga & Spice twice, and both times we ordered using Uber Eats. For whatever the reason, both times we ordered we only received one of the two meals we ordered, which is very unsatisfactory. After each of these occurrences, I made sure to immediately inform the restaurant of what happened, to which they've been understanding and compensative for what was missing. The first time it happened the manager on duty promised to make sure the next time we came to the restaurant (which we've never done as of yet, we've only ordered through Uber Eats), we would receive a free meal to compensate for the one that was missing. The second time this happened was 15 January, and I again followed up on the mistake with a phone call to the restaurant. The second time I was directed to the co-owner of the restaurant, who not only offered to compensate us with a free meal, but also offered to bring it to our home. We thought this a very gracious gesture and we appreciate the co-owner for the effort he took to rectify the situation. Despite the missing items on both occasions, the food is actually really tasty and worth having. We especially liked the hot honey old bay wings, which were cooked well and were abundantly, but not overwhelmingly, seasoned and sauced. We also liked the candied yams, although there were almost no marshmallows as advertised, but were delicious and incorporated a sufficent balance of nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla well balanced with the amount of yams used. Other than the yams, we also had the greens-cabbage and macaroni and cheese, which were also very good despite a bit of dryness with the greens-cabbage and a marginal amount of sharpness to the cheese. Overall, great sides that were very well portioned for their price. Everything else we had, which included the lemon pepper shrimp, the lamb chops, and the jerk crab fries, was good and full of flavor, but with a few issues: the shrimp were a bit small for the price, but the sauce was tasty; the lamb chops were also flavorful but small and not a sufficient and substantial amount for the price; the jerk crab fries were good but over seasoned with the jerk seasoning and the fries were a bit oily. All in all, especially because of the owner's work to rectify our situation but also the overall good food, I will most likely try Suga and Spice again soon and would recommend supporting this new, emerging, and improving...
Read moreService here is interesting. Not bad. All the guys were friendly. Especially the guy taking the order he made suggestions and everyone was chatting with us. All very polite. I may sound petty but uniforms would really change my feelings on this. I interacted with 2 employees ( I think) and I wasn't sure if they were employees. They kind of just came up and were talking to us and I had no idea if it was just someone coming to talk or if they worked there. They didn't give me my drink initially so I ended up waiting for it and I didn't get it until after my food. We were trying to make eye contact to find out why my friend's order didn't come out with the rest of ours. At one point we asked for something and the guy made a face like had a big smile ( like phony) and then turned and made a face. It seemed playful and funny but .. with the food being as expensive as it is I expected something a little more put together. I'm not going to say upscale but matching uniforms ( or maybe all wearing black shirts or something) and really would have made this experience better.
The ambiance was definitely not up to par for the cost of the food. Not bad just didn't match. You order at the counter like it's take out and they bring it out to you when you let them know what table you're going to sit at. 35$ for a plate of food another 7$ for the bottle of lemonade (no liquor) was pricey for it to be a couple of dudes moving around the restaurant in and out and kind of all over.
I guess comparing this to food in NY is what's throwing me off. When food is this pricey there's definitely a fancier ambiance. Anyways, the food here is tasty. The vibe is very casual even though the prices don't...
Read moreStop by to enjoy some Caribbean flavors!!! We started with the steak and cheese egg rolls - the perfect amount of steak and cheese the crust was nice and crisp but flaky too. OkY I’m a huge foodie and big on pastas I had the Not Yo Mama Penne Pasta - um the amount of spice and seasonings combined had a small party in my mouth my tastebuds was like thank you girl for my first meal of the day / I definitely treated myself well OkY My date ( my Son ) had the jerk wing dinner with the Mac & Cheese / Greens sides - for a connoisseur of Mac & Cheese it ranked pretty high the greens he enjoyed as well. I tasted both and the greens lacked a lil for me but the Mac&cheese I concur was greeeeeaaaat!!!! The drinks which I believe are in house made were very refreshing mango and strawberry lemonades. We also had the opportunity to be advised as first timers by one of the owners….whom also recommended Toya’s new spot in DC which we were going there first but this place is closer to the Thrift stores we plan on hitting. The guy who took my order and brought my food out was helpful as well and very respectful and is happy in his position. Sometimes you visit a business and can tell right away it’s just a paycheck but this young Man seemed genuinely happy and content at work. Love that too!!!! We were unable to finish everything but there’s nothing like a worthy to go box ya heard me???? Welp y’all get on over to Sugar & Spice - enjoy your life and bless your tastebuds with some of the goodness they cheffing up. Just an fyi we could’ve used some heat in the place it was a bit chilly which cools down food rapidly that’s the only thing I could’ve hoped for and seat liners in the...
