May 2022 UPDATE: We’ve been coming to The Reister’s Daughter since before COVID. They’ve adapted well and become a staple in our routine, and in my opinion, a staple in the wider community. They’ve added online ordering, a rear pickup window, and keep the seasonal drinks coming. Add in all the pastries baked fresh daily. Ask your barista what’s new, and what’s awesome.
ORIGINAL: I was lucky enough to visit on their grand opening weekend. Even with a heavy crowd, the baristas were able to keep the drinks coming from behind the bar quickly.
The latte (w/almond milk) and mocha were both very good. I found that the mocha wasn't overly sweet, and the flavor of the espresso came through well. We also picked a few pastries from the display on the counter, and look forward to seeing what they keep in rotation.
The cafe is tucked into the historic Beckley House (listed), which is being renovated for use for another 240 years. The decor and bespoke furniture is a nice fit for the historic brick and beam construction. The floors still need finishing, and there are few trim pieces out of place, but I'm glad to see this property being put to good use. I can't wait for the fireplace to get inspected and lit. It would bring a lot of warmth to the room.
Parking is available around back, but enter via the entry door off...
Read moreFor as many times as I've been here I can't believe I haven't left a review yet. Finally some actual coffee without having to drive 20-30 mins! A nice homey, welcoming vibe (not like the cold, ultra minimalist vibe a lot of specialty coffee places have), plenty of outdoor seating, and always a unique seasonal tea or espresso drink in stock. But what I really came here to talk about was the pastries!!!! I have been to a lot of cafes with baked goods and I am not exaggerating when I say the pastries at Reister's Daughter blow them all out of the water. I've had a couple of their muffins, two of the scones, a lil round cake here and there, and a handful of cookies and every single time they are PERFECTION. Perfectly moist, never too sweet (so you can actually taste the dynamic flavors not just one-note sugar), and usually there's just a little something unique to round it out like ginger in a double chocolate cookie or banana in a blueberry scone. If you don't like them I'm sorry but your taste buds need to go back to school lol. 5...
Read moreHaving skimped on breakfast earlier in the day I stopped here over the other week a little past lunchtime and decided on ordering a London Fog and a danish (also delicious) from their pastry stand. Was really charmed! The drink was prepared with care and they didn't cut corners like some places do with that particular drink. It was really delicious, and you can tell the ingredients were high quality. They carry a unique niche coffee brand and have special named blends available. Food items were otherwise limited but I was in later in the day and have seen delicious specials posted on their social media before so they do offer them.
The entire renovation of the historic building is fresh and modern but feels appropriate since to my knowledge the building used to be a soda fountain and ice cream shop in the early 20th century. It appears there's ongoing improvements outside which is also exciting for the area and overall curb appeal. Definitely a worthwhile and growing spot...
