My wife and I made reservations to come here for Valentine's Day. We were on the earlier side because we have a baby at home and didn't want to deal with a super busy rush and be out for too long. First thing we noticed is that they were in the process of blowing up balloons and putting them on vases. The reason we noticed is because it was extremely loud every time the host opened up the gas tank to fill them up. Later she came to our table and asked us to pass her the vase so she could get the balloon on it, and when she came to put it back I ended up just having to take it and put it back myself because she was trying to reach across but couldn't reach. Definitely a bit of an interruption to our time. I also figured that making a reservation specifically for a Valentine's Day dinner at the time they listed the service starting meant this kind of stuff would be done by the time we had come in, but they were still working on it.
Before I mention everything else here, I do want to say that our server was kind, funny, and absolutely pleasant all around. However, we learned that she was running tables and bartending, which likely contributed to the multiple times we were waiting 15 minutes or more for a refill on water, for someone to check on us after we were done eating, etc. Keep in mind that this place is pretty small so it definitely felt a little slow at times.
Next thing is that they didn't seem to know their special menu for the night. It didn't bother me too much, but I did have to call her over and ask to look at the menu again because I was pretty certain we were supposed to get a soup or salad with our meal and she had been completely unaware of that. Again, not the end of the world, but it did mean that my wife and I got our entrees about halfway through eating our salads. I also had to ask multiple times to get a refill on our water glasses, just another small thing that was a bit frustrating.
On Facebook, the restaurant had posted about their Valentine's Day menu, stating that each meal came with a glass of wine or a cocktail. Considering the price tags (90 for my tomahawk steak, bacon brussel sprouts and baked potato, and I think 70 for my wife's chicken dish with similar sides) we brought it up, thinking it must have been another thing that got missed. Our server was wonderful and went to check on this for us, but apparently was told that this was not the deal anymore, even though it is part of what got us in for the night. Also should mention we heard another couple bring this deal up and be told something similar. I have a screenshot of said deal just in case anyone is having a hard time believing a restaurant would try to pull something like that.
Food was pretty good, but again, it came with pretty hefty price tags. I would eat it again but not for those prices. I will say that the desserts were absolutely phenomenal, they have an in house pastry chef and she clearly is very talented because my wife loved her bread pudding and I loved my blueberry cheesecake pie-in-a-jar.
We might come back sometime to check out their non-Valentine's Day menu, but I'm not sure I would ever come back for another special event like this. There aren't really a ton of fun upscale dining options in Marysville, so we were really excited to see this place and try it out, but it really feels like they dropped the ball with the whole special event they were...
Read moreAs amazing as this locations looks on the outside and the upgrade, it has brought to this part of Marysville, its frustrating to write this review. We had high hopes for 1933. We were impressed with the events they've posted to host veterans and patriots so we were excited to support this bar and grill. The interior of this building is unique and for its age I know it must've been a huge investment. We read the history of the building on the cover of the menu and then opened the drink menu to find very high prices for typical fair. When reviewing the grill options we were downright shocked at the prices. I understand that 1933 is more of a bar than a grill however, I now realize if your going to eat, you better have a drink. We chose to share a chicken Alfredo. The meal came to our table with a side of garlic bread. The chicken is pan fried and there was absolutely ZERO flavor, not even salt or pepper on this chicken. It was dry and when I say dry, most of our chicken was chewed and we had to take it out rather than swallow it. Over cooked chicken jerky one might say. The noodles and alfredo sauce was average, lots of "browned" butter. This didn't help to flavor the chicken at all. The garlic bread was over buttered and cold. Not impressive for this one dish to cost $32. We had the one dish and obviously attempted to eat for five minutes and pushed the dish to the side. We sat there, right in front of the bar for 20 minutes before someone asked if we were done. We asked for the bill and unfortunately they brought us a bill for two smash burgers. We had ONE dish. The gal had already run our card as we thought we would be safe handing the payment without looking at a bill for one dish. Never one word was said about our one dish of food still being full and basically untouched. Not one question about the bread that was nibbled and basically untouched. We did receive an apology for the billing mixup and they reran our card and refunded the first charge and told we may see the refund in 30 days on our statement. We used a debit card, it won't take that long but I appreciate the warning. We do want to support our hometown businesses. If you drink, maybe you will have a more favorable experience and the food will taste a lot better, or at least sober you up a bit. We drink water and like to taste our food and If this is you, pick elsewhere. Good luck to 1933 and our hopes that your visit will be a much better experience than ours on a...
Read moreThe waitress with blonde hair and pink nails, I think her name was Mikki, could work on her customer service. Her facial expressions and tone weren't very professional. We asked for stuff like salt and another beer, politely I may add, no snapping or anything crazy, and we got a couldn't be less interested waitress, she was rushing us and mocking my sister. She seemed super busy, it is mother's Day. I just was not expecting this. I was there with my mom and sister. The first time we've been out together for mother's Day since we became adults. Mikkie came to the table and asked if we needed anything. My mom and I asked for another beer and before my sister could speak she started to walk away so my sister covered her hands around her mouth and said "can I have some salt" and she mocked her hand placement and said "sure" with such a weird expression, I can't explain what it was but it was like she was trying to play off a bad joke. . But the jokes weren't funny, the service was weird, the food was t seasoned. Except the fries, the fries were so good. I definitely love being at a restaurant where the staff are playful but the tone body language and facial expressions didn't convey jokes. My sister thought there lemonball or something was a shot, so she asked for a that and a kettle drink The girl said okay and walked away, when she came back she had our beer but didn't have either of my sisters drinks, she looked at her and said "yeah we can only serve one drink at a time" so my sister said yeah no problem, before she could answer she said "so which one" she was just super snappy and rushed and was only poliet to my mom when the check was delivered. She made my mom very uncomfortable and instead of staying for a bit, we took to go boxes almost 4 bites in and left. My family doesn't go out often. Which is specifically why we decided to go here for mother's Day. It said on the website how you hand picked excellent staff and it is just sad how we didn't...
