I love sushi and have dinned at many sushi restaurants and I will say Hai Sushi House ranks last. The focus seams to be behind the sushi counter which is in the kitchen and not at a sushi bar. You can make the case that the building was built that way but if your going to serve sushi then make the changes to creat the traditional sushi environment. That said this restaurant lacks the respect that sushi and its history deserve. I ordered the Red Spider Roll, no soft shell crab in the roll, and plenty of fake crab for $25. The roll was so filled with fake crab, rice, and a plethora of other fish in very small portions that it couldnāt pick with a 2āx4ā pair of chop sticks, the chopsticks they gave me resembled a cocktail olive pick. The spicy tuna hand roll was good the spider roll not so much. The young woman tending to our table needs to stick to TickTock and avoid real work that requires communication with human-beings. My wife ordered a Sapporo asked for a cold glass and was brought a plastic dinner cup. When she asked āagainā for a cold glass she was told the had no more. In closing I will say this, Shusi isnāt burgers and brews its an historic culinary art. Unfortunately the people that work at Hai struggle with respect of a cultural that has beauty, pride, and historical tradition and has marked the world with its excellence. Hai needs to show some respect and put their flashy social media personalities at the door nobody...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered online. Estimated time for pick up was 60 mins. I called the restaurant to confirm they received my order and that the pick up time was accurate. The young lady that answered said it was not accurate and that my order would be ready in 10 to 15 minuted and she would fix the estimate online, Perfect as I live roughly 15 to 20 mins away. Upon arrival I walked to the counter and said I had an online order. There was only 1 couple seated in the restaurant. They shortly became busy and I noticed food going to tables that were seated after I had arrived. I got the attention of one of the worker after waiting for nearly 45 mins and she's explained that they hadn't even started my order!
After getting my order and arriving home I noticed they didn't put any Wasabi or ginger (that I paid an additional 3 dollars for) in my bags, also 1 of my rolls was packaged un-cut.
This was my first time trying this place usually I drive into yuba city. I hope this is unusual for this place and giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were having an off night. Food was decent not sure if iam being biased due to the bad communication and service. Not what I expected for nearly 100 dollars that I spent.
May try to give them another chance in the future but...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOverall the sushi was ok. I didn't like that the sushi rolls were cut too big. Too much money! The quality of the food is not that great. The pictures of the place look nice but they don't have white floors they have nasty Green carpet. We went around 7:30 p.m. there were no lights on in the dining area just in the kitchen and the AC was not turned on. Just the fans were blasting high but it was still hot. This made it uncomfortable for me and my family. Maybe they're trying to save on PG&e bill. I ordered hot sake with my mail and they did not give it to me until I asked for it again and by the time they brought it out we were already almost done with our dinner. When I did receive it it burned my finger tips. Then I had to wait for it to cool down and everyone was ready to go by then. On top of all that I never even got a buzz and I rarely even drink. I normally get a buzz off of one beer. Did they cook the alcohol out of it or something? Or maybe it just is not good sake. I did raise an eyebrow to the fact that there was not one Asian person working in the restaurant nor cooking. I guess this restaurant did not capture the essence of a good...
