Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Massillon

Date Night! We have been to this Applebee's many times. Management is generally attentive even though we did not get a visit on this particular evening. Our favorite burger is gone from the menu (Beer Cheese Maple Bacon) and our second favorite burger (Quesadilla Burger) has been changed. The Salmon that I used to order (Cedar Plank Maple Glaze is also gone from the menu). We sure would like to see some of our favorites rotate back in.

On this particular visit: Our server had just come in from her smoke break to take our order. The smell was overwhelming and a bit unappetizing. She was attentive, filling our drinks several times and listening to our order. We ordered Whisky Bacon Burgers and received Classic Bacon Cheeseburgers. The burgers were good, just not what we ordered. The New Cheese Bites are good and we recommend you give them a try. (Not included in 1/2 price appetizers or meal combos).

Late Night: Our party of 8 arrived to a largely empty restaurant at 10pm. This location closed at 1am. We waited for a table for 20 minutes. We ordered burgers which were finally brought to our table at 11:15pm... two at a time. Mine came without fries (which were brought about 15 minutes later) and looked as thought had been assembled by a trained seal. I imagined that the cook was either very drunk or was playing a game where he tried to assemble the burger by tossing the components from 10 ft away. We went for an early dinner on sunday aug 2 for my best friends birthday dinner. We all agreed that our waitresses attitude was not friendly. Her name was Addy. My friend wanted one of their bowls which had been discontinued. Now because of covid I understand that the menus are scaled down but with a limited menu any items not available should be mentioned when being seated. The restaurant was not busy at the time we were there. Our waitress was not readily available throughout the time we were there for questions or refills on drinks. When we was ordering my friend tried to order an entree that was second choice after she found out the bowls were discontinued and was told that entree was unavailable. Now she's upset and ordered just a salad as did the other people in the party. When the food arrived the birthday girl was not happy that the salad she ordered was all cabbage. There was no disruption on the menu. She would not let me get her something else. It should have come with a breadstick which it did not. As I said before our waitress was unavailable. We asked another person working there for to go boxes. After our waitress dropped off our bill she came back to get the money for the bill cashed us out and then said I don't know if you want the birthday dessert or not and I said of course she wants it. Our experience was below standards. There was no one at the entrance of the store to place a complaint with. It will be a long time...

So we get there at 9 for a friend's daughter's birthday dinner. The restaurant is practically empty. We are told because of the size of our party we would have around a 1.5 hour wait. I ask why the long wait time with plenty of tables available. The hostess replies with "we just had two large parties we need to give our kitchen staff time to catch up". I don't fully understand this because more people walk in and are seated no problem. So we continue to wait more people are sat. We ask again if we can be seated because there is still more than half the restaurant that is empty. We are then met another excuse as to why we can't be seated. This time it's because our party is too large and they only have two large tables they use for large parties. We tell the manager we are more than okay with being split up into different tables. Nope can't happen now it will disrupt the flow of the restaurant per the manager. So we end up waiting the full 1.5 hours while the restaurant sits practically empty kids getting fussy and hungry. We get seated half the food we order they are out of because by this time it's almost 11pm. The waitresses were great but by this time it was a struggle because now kids are tired and want to go to bed, we felt rushed not to mention the bus staff asked if we could help them and bus our plates as we finish. Overall this was a terrible experience, if you plan to have a large party to get together and eat....
