I moved to Massillon about 12 years ago. I came across Menchies shortly after I moved here. I would say I have eaten there maybe once a year since then. After running errands in the afternoon my girlfriend and I decided to eat out someplace on the way home. I didn't feel like cooking dinner. We don't eat out a lot so this was a rare treat for us. I didn't want to drive far so we decided on eating someplace in town. We narrowed it down to either Rockne's or Menchies. We actually had to flip a coin in the parking lot to decide where we would eat. It came up Menchies and I'm glad it did. It was around 4:30 when we walked in and was greeted right away. We were given the option of table or booth. The place looked to be half full of patrons, mostly early birders I would assume. We took a booth. The booth was clean and tidy. There was a special card, an alcohol menu and a newer food menu to look over. It least it was new to me. It's been a year since we ate there last. I overheard conversation that the place was under new ownership (?) I'm not sure about that. The decor was still the same as it always was. The menu looked the same but maybe scaled down just a little bit. All the things that Menchies is famous for are still there. The service was awesome. I can't say enough good things about our server, which, lets be honest, is lacking these days at some places. Anyhow, her name was Sophia and she was just awesome. She was always at our table at the right time. She didn't try to push us along if you know what I mean. She was outgoing, friendly, and always had a smile on her face. It was like she actually enjoyed her job. Imagine that! The rest of the staff was polite and well groomed. The place was worth visiting just to experience that. I had to use the bathroom and it looked brand new. Everything looked new and clean. Someone once told me, if the bathroom looks bad then the kitchen probably looks bad too. It's safe to say they run a clean ship here. The food was good to great. She had the lil Bobilious and I went with the hot honey pepperoni pizza. Appetizers were half off until 5 so we indulged with the cheesy tater tots. The appetizer was awesome and enough for two people. The burger was cooked just right. I ended up with half her burger. It was more than she could eat. It was great. The good was the pizza. I never had a hot honey pepperoni pizza so I picked that. Heads up, your fingers are gonna be sticky when your finished. Just a suggestion, a couple of wet naps should be brought out with that item when it's ordered. My only small complaint was the pepperonis were lacking. My suggestion is if it's an one item pizza load that sucker up. Let's face it, pizza joints are a dime a dozen. You really gotta do something awesome to make yours stand out from the competition. I might be a little biased when it comes to Pizza but nothing will beat a Coccia House pizza. Its so loaded down it feels like your carrying a brick when you pick it up. That's my only suggestion about your pizza. The taste was there as was the crust. It just needed a little more to take it to the next level of pizza. I had room for dessert and went with a piece Coconut Cream pie. I enjoyed every bite of it. To sum up our visit, it's worth giving them your money. It was an excellent dining experience. We'll be back and...
Read moreTraveling through town on a business trip with family in tow. Following a day long tour of our new clients business, we w we re all hungry, and it was he who pointed us in the direction of this little gem. I ordered the Philly steak sandwich with a side of tots. I went full on with all of the available toppings, and then for an upcharge i asked that pepperoni be added when making the steak. (I do this everywhere and really wish it would catch on as it really adds a ki k of flavoe). This ended up being one of the best Philly sandwiches anybody has ever served up! The steak was perfectly tende, and not in short supply either. Oftentimes I find myself scraping all of the steak onto one half just to make a satisfying sandwich, but definitely not here. In fact, when I looked at it, I considered the possibility that I may need to cut it up and eat some of it with a fork just to be able to get my mouth around it. The tots were light and broke into a perfect mouthful of tiny tater cubes with one bite. Had I not chosen the Philly, I would have opted for the double patty burger called 'The Bobalouie double'. Not to worry however because my son-in-law ordered that one. I doubt I would have ever been able to pick that one up let alone finish it! It's size was intimidating from 4 seats away down our table. I did squeeze a bite away from him and it was as delicious as it looked. No complaints from any of the other 4 members of our party either with any of their selections. I did have a bowl of their chili as an appetizer. Unlike many establishments where a bowl of soup is undiscernable from a cup dumped into a shallow bowl, this bowl was deep and I shared it with my wife. Plenty of fresh onions in the mix which retained a light crunch after cooking. The ground beef was proportionate and had its own pleasant flavor (likely seasoned like the burgers while cooking prior to adding to the mix). The tomato based broth was somewhat lackluster and really didn't taste like chili, but overall wasn't bad. Our server (Jill?) was polite, informative, and attentive despite there being only 2 handling the floor. Pricing was very fair, especially given the fact that quality and quantity were prevalent. Will definitely be a repeat customer whenever I find myself...
Read moreThe food is almost always consistently good here and the price point is insanely low considering inflation for what you get which is also nice.
Every time I visit here the waitresses seem to take everyone's orders at the same time no matter what time of day it is or what order you arrived to the restaurant. Sometimes my food is cold I'm guessing because it sat while other orders were taken and other times I watch people who arrived after me get their food long before me or at the same time. Service is also pretty slow considering. This is very off putting.
This place has so much potential to be better, it's very clean but definitely needs some updates. The decor has been the same for years and some updates would go a long way!
The staff has always generally been very nice, but the lack of decent uniforms for the servers is also to be desired. Something about having my waitress in yoga pants instead of nice uniform slacks is unappetizing to say the least. Being face to face with your monkey while I place my order is ick. I've had a few occasions where my waitress smelled like a fresh ashtray also pretty unappetizing.🤷🏾♀️ I guess there just aren't the same standards there used to be when it comes to dining out. The food is cheap enough and they are nice enough I always come back though. These things could really use some work to be fair.🤷🏾♀️
The menu is also very overwhelming, there is so much on the menu for a place that is famous for the hamburger. Fresh cut fries would also be much better with all of the hamburger selections. They have such a wonderful selection of burgers to choose from, but then they have a million other things on the menu as well. It's a bit overwhelming and hard to know what this place is really known for as their signature meal. I feel like they should focus on just one of those items per week as the special of that day. If it's consistently good that item would sell out on that day almost every time I bet.
Overall, nice restaurant, decent food, good prices especially for breakfast, and...
