Kabab-Je Rotisserie & Grille — Restaurant in Matthews

It is really hard to write a review to do this restaurant justice. I had the pleasure of eating here last night with my girlfriend and we were lucky to find this place due to the positive reviews. So the only thing to do is to give a good review so others may be able to enjoy what we did.

This place felt very comfortable the second you walk through the door and you are greeted with smiles. We sat down and were introduced to our wonderful waitress Annabelle. She asked if we had ever been there before and told her no we hadn't, so she made some wonderful suggestions. We decided to get the fried cauliflower which was excellent. She also took the time to explain some of the things in the menu which was nice because there are a couple things I'd never heard of. The mixed grill and Greek salad were excellent and the portions were enough to have an entire second meal after bread and appetizer.

After ordering our dinner and getting our appetizer we were already pleased with the decision to come here. I had already read in other reviews that the owner was very involved and invested with his customers and to this point he did not let me down for one second. He came over and complimented us and asked if we had ever been to his restaurant and said that if we had never tried the humus that it went incredible with the meal I had ordered. I said I would keep that in mind for next time we came. Not being one to eat humus I figured how good could it really be??? Well he came back with some and said that we had to try it with our meal and hoped that we would enjoy it on the house. It was the little things that set this place apart from other places. These little things are the reason why this restaurant is rated so highly. Not just because this place has great food or we were brought a free appetizer. I would have gladly paid for it but the owner cared enough about our experience that he made sure personally it was the best possible experience that we could have had.

When someone is genuine and truly invested in what they do it shows. It showed through the quality of his food, it showed in the appearance of his restaurant, it showed with the sincerity of his wait staff, and it most definitely shows in the reviews he receives! This is the reason I will be willing to go out of my way to enjoy...

I thought I would treat my mother and I to lunch after a full morning of tasks. I had experienced food from Kabab-Je at a wedding and it was delicious so I was happy to visit the restaurant. That's where the happiness ended. We were not greeted by the female hostess when we entered. I wasn't sure if we needed to be seated or just seat ourselves until I asked. Her reply was "No you must be seated!". Felt like I was a huge bother for having to ask. Then I asked if we could sit on the patio. She immediately said "No" without even a glance at the patio where there was plenty of availability. She then corrected and said "okay yes". She then grabbed 2 menus, turned around and walked away without a word. I took my elderly mother's arm and followed the hostess thinking to myself this is very odd behavior but at least we don't have to see her anymore. Boy was I in for a shock when our server arrived even MORE sour than the hostess. No smile, no greeting, no warmth. She took our order, literally dropped off our food and we never saw her again. This review is already too long so I will just say the food was Fantastic but the service was HORRIBLE. There was 1 young man with curly hair who smiled, cleared our plates and asked if he could get us anything else. BRAVO!!! He had me with his smile. Everyone else there needs to take a page from his book. There are enough restaurants serving delicious food here in Charlotte so I ,for one, won't be revisiting or recommending Kabab-Je. We don't usually eat outside of our normal comfort zone and stopped here instead of Qudobo since it's usually very crowded but not as full on the patio that night so by chance we decided to give it a try and were extremely glad that we did. The roasted potatoes were amazingly delicious, the bread was warm and delicious. I had the seafood sampler with just shrimp and scallops - preferred the shrimp, the husband had the meat trio - the garlic butter for the chicken was so delicious and the ground meat kabab was my favorite, he preferred the lamb and chicken - the vegetables were so fresh and delicious as was the saffron rice - I loved the taste that the raisins gave the rice but the husband said he'd have preferred not to have the raisins - we will definitely be coming back - I want to try the cauliflower and chicken wings too. We had so much food leftover we took a good sample of the shrimp and ground meat and veggies and rice hime - my husband made me stop for a burger for our 19 year old son who's normally a picky eater but he didn't touch the hamburger he loved all of the food and wanted to know why we didn't bring him chicken wings.
