Let me paint the atmosphere. I am but a 16 year old girl, hungry. Famished, even. Yearning for a yummy yummy bite. Now, my little sister was on a tamale kick, to my dismay, see when I first entered this restaurant, I was reluctant, you see. I wanted Chinese, but the little sister...always wins. I walk inside, aggravated, hungry, and most of all, mourning the Taco Bobs that once lay in its place. Oh bob, how I miss you.
I gingerly walk behind my mother, talking to the man at the desk, and we are quickly escorted to a table. My tummy was happy about how quick that was.
Once sat, still frustrated that I was dragged into this joint, I look up at the man who was taking our drink orders, and oh my. A handsome fellow he was.
This boosted my mood slightly, though still apprehensive.
After the man left, I whispered to my mother about how I found the young lad quite striking, it felt only seconds later, he brought drinks, chips, salsa, and queso.
Still slightly wrathful, I went on strike, and did not eat the chips, oh how mistaken I was.
I took a peak at the menu, pursing my lips, everything looked quite scrumptious, but, wanting to deter my families mood from choosing a mexican place and not the Chinese buffet down the street, I chose the catfish, thinking, oh, there's no way a mexican restaurant can make this delicious, and I would have something to complain about.
We all tell the dark brooding server our orders, and he struts away.
But maybe 15 minutes later, we all have the sustenance we chose from the menu.
My my, it smelt divine.
My eyebrow twitched in frustration. there was no way this was going to be something to complain about.
I took a bite.
My back arched from the booth in ecstasy.
The intricacies of every seasoning...of every ingredient...hell, every happy moment that poor catfish had, exploded on my palate.
And I, the same, exploded in transcendence.
Nay, this catfish was not good. It was like Gordon Ramsey himself carefully crafted this dish with his mighty british hands.
This catfish was delicious in ways I cannot describe.
After devouring the entire dish in mere seconds, I thought of eating the plate as well, alas, my mother stopped me.
I excused myself from the table, in the afterglow of the godly catfish, I made my way to the bathroom.
"Darn.." I thought. "Theres someone inside."
I wait patiently, and what I see leave the bathroom leaves my jaw agape.
A beautiful woman, no, an ethereal woman leaves that bathroom.
A trail of innocence and love was left in the wake of her strides.
Briefly, I understood what Chappel Roan had sang about in all of her songs.
Still gobsmacked, I enter the bathroom, and a putrid, ghastly smell hit the orifices that laid upon my face.
I stood frozen in shock, what seemed like the 100th time that night.
There was no way, I could believe something so sinister left the buttocks of such a beauty.
I left the bathroom, without having done my business, and my sexuality crisis absolved.
And later, left the restaurant with a full stomach, and a smile on my lips.
I recommend this place, it was...
Read moreAcross the years we'd travel to McAlester to visit family and would often go the "Taco Bob's" for a meal of their Ameri-Mex food, particularly their special house dish called a "sancho." Last week was our first visit since ownership and style changed. (The manager said that occurred about two years ago. We don't get over there very often since family members left or passed.)
Seems that Mexican restaurants, once so rare in eastern Oklahoma, have become a dime a dozen in most communities throughout Oklahoma. Some are really delightful, and others are really mediocre. I must say this one falls into the former category; we were really glad to have stopped there.
Not only was the food tasty, but portions were good and reasonably priced. I'm kind of risk averse, so ordered a simple chicken quesadilla...something that's hard to mess up.
On the other hand, my wife chose their McAlester Grande, which really lives up to its name. The "appetizer" course is a tostada and crispy beef taco, followed by an entree' consisting or an enchilada, pork tamale, rice and beans.
All employees treated us well and were kind and punctual. However, the language barrier was sometimes tough to overcome. That's the only negative we encountered.
We saw many plates of fajitas being delivered to other tables. My quesadilla was filled with chicken fajita meat, so I'm sure the full fajita meals are quite good. We plan to return in a week or so and try them.
The high ratings this restaurant have received are apparently justified. We'll have a better feel for that after our next visit...but I have a high degree of certainty we'll be just as pleased the second...
Read moreThis restaurant is a must stop if you are traveling through McAlester on US69 or are in the area! My girlfriend and I were traveling between Kansas City and Dallas, and decided to stop in McAlester for lunch. We decided on Los 3 Tarascos, and it was terrific idea!
Food - I ordered the quesabirria plate, and my girlfriend ordered a chicken enchilada dinner with ranchero sauce. The quesabirria was fantastic! The meat was incredibly tender and the taco had the perfect cheese-to-meat ratio. The consommé for the birria was fantastic, and the tacos also come with some extra salsa to top off with. My girlfriend said the enchiladas were great as well, though I didn’t try them. Afterwards, we got some sopapillas. I’d recommend trying them - they had the perfect amount of sweetness and tasted amazing!
Cost/Portion Size - Portion sizes are excellent; you will likely be leaving with leftovers. I can’t recall all costs, but I know my quesabirria plate was $10.99, and I left with half the meal as leftovers. All meals were extremely fairly priced, especially considering the recent inflation.
Service - Service was phenomenal. We were seated immediately, got drinks immediately after sitting, and got our order in. Food came out very quickly, and was extremely fresh/warm when it came out.
Location - Tons of seating, very clean. Easy to get to from...
