I absolutely love and completely recommend Downtown Chicken to anyone/everyone looking for an extremely delicious burger, the freshest and the juiciest fried chicken - that I have ever had! They do have other foods to offer - all of which I also highly recommend, and all of their prices are extremely affordable. In my opinion they are just too good to pass up. I consider Downtown Chicken a staple in McAllen history as they have been open and in the same location for as long as I can remember (which is well over 30 years!). The owner is very friendly, and caring, he is and always has been the order-taker/cashier/cook, his employees are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is very comfortable and clean. Despite being an outdoor place, it is very well ventilated and clean. They do have restrooms, which are also very clean : for paying customers and employees only - of course - and the roof is completely covered, so no eating in the sun. Whether you're shopping downtown or you just have a craving for some delicious food, Downtown Chicken is the spot to look for! I finally remembered to take a photo!, the nachos and everything else was basically finished so they aren't completely in the photo, Lol! So for now, please take my word and give Downtown Chicken a try, I guarantee you will love it!!

If you ever want to get out of the usual and typical, I recommend this place downtown. If you like to people watch and hear others stories without wanting too, yet eavesdropping is mandatory because people just talk too loud.. this is the place. It’s a peculiar, yet satisfying lunch experience, guaranteed. The chicken and fries were hot and tasty. Had a $6.99 combo with fries and Dr. Pepper. You have the company of a gang of street cats and passersby on the downtown sidewalk. Recommend.

I order the torta combo with fries and soda. The meal was reasonably priced and of satisfactory quality. However, if you dine outdoors, be aware that there will be a significant number of flies circling your food. Regrettably, they only accept cash payments, not credit cards. 🥲
