Barry's Pub — Restaurant in McCandless

Barry's Pub was on my list to try once I heard of it and realized it was part of the North Park Lounge/ NPL family of restaurants, a group of locally owned pub style eateries that the locals have loved for years. Barry's shares most of it's menu items with the "master menu" hailing from NPL in Wexford, but with a few special options thrown in like a Chicago style Hot Dog. My Mom, my eight year old and I shared the BBQ Chicken Dip, my personal favorite NPL menu item. I had a chicken quesadilla and we also tried the hush puppies. My Mom had a BBQ burger and my son had a grilled cheese. Everything came out hot and nicely prepared and overall is was a good lunch. Our waitress, who was also tending bar, was great. She was just super welcoming, she made us feel really comfortable and she treated us really well. We were definitely welcome with a little one for lunch but signs on the front entrance stated no one under 21 after 8pm. I found this to be fair because unlike NPL in Wexford, Barry's is a bar first and a restaurant second. Barry's is definitely the local weekend watering hole with a well known set of regulars there to kick back and have a good time. There was a pool table in the back, a few video betting games, TVs, and music in the background. Lighting was low but it was very clean inside. There were about three booths, a couple tables and a bar with most of the seats full on a Saturday afternoon. I suggest a visit for drinks and a quick bite. Considering I mostly dine out with my son in tow, I probably won't go back, but that's for personal reasons. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. It is one of the coolest bar/restaurants to go to!! We stopped in for the first time after seeing an ad for the Halloween pop up bars. I drove 40 min and was not disappointed! The decorations were lit, the walls were covered and the lighting was so cool. Plus you can't miss the huge skelly outside. We went for the karaoke and stayed for the atmosphere!! I haven't had that much fun in a long time. The crowd was full of all kinds of people, all ages, and everyone was so nice and kind and friendly. The vibe was so good! Karaoke was bomb and the whole bar was literally singing along with every song together. DJ Diva was a sweetheart with a wicked personality!!! Loved her so much. The food was so good! It was piping hot and fresh and delicious. Plus, homemade sauces - you cannot miss! I made friends at the bar and even in the bathroom. I swear you won't find a friendlier place. It was also really clean for a bar. The staff was sweet and kind and attentive. I cannot wait to go back. I'm not big on bars at this point in life, but if I was a regular anywhere, it would be at Barry's Pub!!! 100% will make that drive again, soon! And I'll bring more friends. Berry’s Pub is absolutely amazing! I went today for Thursday Karaoke night, and yesterday for Name That Tune, and both experiences were unforgettable. The drinks are strong, the portions are generous, and the cozy vibes make it the perfect spot to unwind.
