Graeter's Ice Cream — Restaurant in McCandless

People say this is some of the best ice cream in the country. I don't think I've eaten enough ice cream to dispute that, but this place has what seems like high quality ice cream at good prices and I feel very fortunate to have Graeter's in Pittsburgh. I personally did not feel my life was changed by the ice cream here as much as some people say, and now that I've tried it (it was fine) I don't feel any urge to go back, but that's just me, a person that's not very passionate about ice cream. If you like ice cream you'll probably love it here.

The selection of flavors available is not super great but it's enough. Picking a cone is confusing- some are on display and some are not and the paper on the display cones keeps you from seeing exactly what's in them. This is how I ended up with a teeny tiny sugar cone and a paper bowl when I just wanted a plain normal sized cone. And the paper makes it look like the chocolate cones are 100% chocolate coated but it's only the top of the cone that is, you just can't see the rest of the cone under the paper in the display.

Overall it seems like good ice cream. I was not super impressed but...

Extremely disappointed and concerned – will never return

I used to be a loyal customer of Graeter’s, often bringing my family and even my kids’ sports team in after games. It was our little tradition, and we always enjoyed the experience—until recently.

On our last ever visit, one of the employees, a college age man named Aaron, made inappropriate and uncomfortable comments to my teenage daughter. I won’t go into detail here, but suffice it to say, his behavior was completely out of line and unacceptable for someone working around children and families. My daughter was shaken, and I was furious. Come to find out he is a supervisor?! Is this really the kind of person you have in charge of other employees at your store? Someone who makes, quite frankly, disgusting comments to minors?!

Parents—please be cautious. I never thought something like this would happen in a place we trusted. We will not be coming back, and I’ve warned other parents on the team as well.

Graeter’s needs to take these concerns seriously and ensure a safe environment for all customers, especially young ones.

Google map not let you create a new review. I brought my daughter and her friend today 5/12/2022 , one year from my last disappointed visit . This time I would give it 5 star , so even to 3 . BWE had a concert today and we come here to celebrate . Young Staff ( guess they are high school students?) are friendly, kind and pleasant. Hope you keep up the service and product!

One year ago’s review: Just visited this place in a snowy day (yes, April 21) b/c my daughter just finished pssa and this is a reward. I experienced what may be called “polite dislike’ by a young man. Well, if this subjective, but why the icescreem is so liquid? Only 10 min drive from the store to my house, my daughter quickly started to eat once in the car because it started to flow down the cone right out the store and she had to put back the rest into refrigerator as the rest became so liquid ! I doubt we ordered smoothie instead of iced cream . We used to visit this store and people had always been friendly and helpful. I like a lady working there .Sad didn’t see her today.
