Sugar — Restaurant in McKinney

Horrible experience with Sugar! Went out for a late night sugar run with the wife on the first date night we’ve had in a long time. We show up with a couple ahead and one young attendant. We arrived 40 mins before closing time (time stamped picture attached). We watched her allow them to order from the full menu. When it’s our turn after patiently waiting we were denied an item on the menu. We ordered a waffle meal to share together. One singular item. The waffle maker was ON. We could smell it. There was battler. She was hauling off a metal container with plenty of batter cause she could barely carry it. And she said, “Sorry it’s too late we have to clean the machine. You should have shown up earlier.”. We are 40 mins to close and the machines were on and there was more than enough batter for our order. She didn’t refuse because of lack of time or supplies. She refused due to lack of will. Change the time if you want to...

When We arrived to the establishment, I ordered my bubble waffle with cheesecake ice cream and a guy poured the batter into the machine and walked to the back to grab something. As it was cooking the owner came from outside and grabbed a dirty white rag and started to wipe the counters down and wipe the waffle machines and as he was wiping, he was also eating the waffle crumbs from the machine. When my machine beeped to alert them that my waffle was done the owner opened the waffle machine and grabbed it with his bare hands and tried to serve it to me after I just watched him scratch his back and wipe counters down with a dirty rag🤢 when I told him that I didn’t want the waffle and told him what I witness him do….he then told me “ I have the right to refuse service if u have a issue with the owner” I 1 out of 10 do not recommend this place… spend your money...

A gourmet experience, plus supporting a small business- win-win. The owner was very welcoming and answered all questions and offered suggestions. The ice cream is very creamy. Their cappuccino ice cream is probably the best I've had in a long time, and it went well with the dark chocolate waffle cone. The kids loved their electric blue Cookie Monster ice cream with red velvet cones. My only request would be to have at least one kid-size set of chairs/tables. While the counter and bar stools were fun, my kids needed help climbing up, and the stools are a bit wobbly, so proceed with caution. Will be back for treat days when the kids earn "special rewards."
