The location was nice and service good. I went to pick up an online order because Uber eats added 10 dollars to the meal plus charged delivery, I saw this as unacceptable.
This was my first time at the establishment. I was greeted and met the owner. I did have to wait additional 20 mins for food I ordered 30 mins before I arrived. I waited in the bar area and inquired about a drink like sorrel but they didn’t have anything like that. I asked about the sparkling drink in the case and took two of those (they were 11.98 for two small seltzers). Still I waited since I wasn’t offered anything while I waited.
The food came out and I opened the bag and thankful I did because the soup was leaking. They quickly changed out all the items to a new bag, nothing was replaced.
Now for the food. I get home and look at all the containers and was surprised by the small amounts for the price I received. I will include pictures of all the items and one additional picture from another establishment that sells the same food, but has more generous portions.
I bought over 100 (with tax and a tip) dollars in food. The prices were high but I don’t mind that when paying for quality and taste. The meat in the oxtails I received was tender but the flavor is not Jamaican. The side of oxtails was 25 and chosen because 41 for a plate seemed high. I received a small amount for the price and few beans. I also order pepper soup and the flavor was ok but not really spicy. I got jerk chicken with rice and peas and cabbage and had 3 small pieces of chicken with a large amount of rice taking up most of the space in the container. I also ordered the curry goat and that was the only thing that looked like it was worth the cost.
The meats were tender but I got more sides than meat. The cabbage and plantains were the best part of the meals, but I didn’t pay for sides.
If I think of this as a club with food then the prices are matching the up charge you associate with that. I will not be back as I want a particular flavor in my Jamaican food and a certain amount of food and this missed both marks.
Please see photos all containers in black are from Cubana Grille the white container is from another place I go to that has portions I received in a Togo order...
Read moreI recently visited Cubana, a Caribbean-Nigerian restaurant, expecting to enjoy a flavorful and satisfying meal, but unfortunately, my experience was far from it. While I understand that times are tough and food prices have gone up, what I received for $42 was nothing short of daylight robbery.
I ordered a small plate of Jollof rice and suya to-go, expecting a decent portion that would justify the price. However, when I opened my container, I was shocked at how little food I actually received. The portion was laughably small, barely enough for a single meal, let alone something that should cost this much. For the price I paid, I was expecting generous servings—especially for a dish as traditional and staple as Jollof rice with suya.
Now, let’s talk about the value for money (or lack thereof)., I received a meager serving that barely covered the bottom of the container. I honestly felt like I had been ripped off. I’ve had Jollof and suya from many other Nigerian and West African restaurants, and for $42, I could have easily gotten a full platter with enough food for two people.
Beyond the portion issue, I was too disappointed to fully enjoy the flavors because the frustration of being overcharged overshadowed everything. Food is meant to bring joy, not leave you feeling cheated. I don’t mind paying for good food, but the pricing should reflect the quantity and quality of what’s being served.
Cubana needs to re-evaluate their pricing and portion sizes because, at this rate, they are bound to lose customers who expect to get their money’s worth. If a small plate of Jollof and suya costs this much, I can’t even imagine what they charge for a full meal!
Would I return? Absolutely not, unless they adjust their portions to match their pricing. There are plenty of other Caribbean and Nigerian spots that offer authentic, delicious food at a fair price.
If you’re considering trying Cubana, be prepared to pay a premium for a portion size that might...
Read moreI came to this establishment to pick up an online order and the hostess poor customer service is the reason I will never be going back. When I arrived, another couple was standing in front of me confused because there was no one there to greet them or anywhere to be seen. By the time somebody came from the back, she mumbled to them to sit down wherever they want. When I informed her that I was here to pick up an order, she said OK you can sit wherever you want and I will get to you whenever I am done. Never was there a greeting or warm welcoming to me or the other customers who came to dine in the restaurant. After she finally went to the back to bring me my order I couldn’t even get a thank you for paying for food from this restaurant. Considering the high price tag for items on your menu, I would expect to receive exceptional service or even just basic common courtesies. The server couldn’t care less to help me or the people that came there to dine in. I guess the hostess was acting as a server as well but that does not excuse her rudeness or that she provided the worst customer service imaginable in less than five minutes. I have not tried the food yet but I will never order from here again based on my experience....
