We’ve gotten takeout from here several times. Usually it’s street tacos( an order or two), Queso, and rice. We have been told and clearly understand there is an upcharge when u order street tacos on any day other than Tuesday. That is fine. My Issues: each time we get our orders the prices and food we receive are not consistent. Second issue: Tonight, I ordered takeout and went to pick it up. I was told the total would be $24 and change. I get there and I simply give them my name and let them know I had a to go order then multiple ppl came up to me offering no real assistance and one worker after asking my name again then placed the receipt in the counter in front of me. I looked at it and noticed the upcharge is $6 totaling $27 and change. I inquired about the difference than a man comes up and talks to me as if we were already having a conversation about the food cost and why the upcharge and the cost of each taco. It was done in an immediate, non provoked brash, and defensive manner really for no reason. No concern for the CLEAR miscommunication on their part. At the very very least there should have been an apology for the miscommunication on THEIR PART. There was none at all. That would have went a long way in displaying good quality service. Their staff told me the price of my meal and maybe they did ring it up wrong but that is not the first time I was told that over the phone. It’s not about the extra $3 but about the lack of good customer service. A customer should not have to pay for a workers mistake but, even in the event that it happens(as in my case) it should be made better by the store taking responsibility and there was none taken. Third issue: And if that was not enough my food was not ready and I still had to wait more time AND even tell them I wanted to pay for my meal. Fourth issue: the guy I mentioned earlier then. Said they would get my street tacos and beans and rice, I inquired about this because I did not order beans. He said it came with what I ordered or something like that and walked off. Again brash for no reason, this was weird because each time we get the street tacos we were told those items and queso only come with street tacos on Tuesday. So when I made it home I had extra rice and a small queso (in addition to the rice and queso I ordered) for and beans. Another example of inconsistency that really needs to...

Arturo is no longer running my now "former" favorite Mexican restaurant in Memphis.
I hadn't been back in some time. The day I finally returned, I knew something was wrong. The chips tasted a bit stale and the salsa did not taste fresh - it tasted like it came out of a can. Noooooo!
I ordered quest blanco and it was so runny, it spilled all over the table and my clothes. At this point, it seemed like they were cutting corners instead of making fresh salsa.
I always get chilaquiles verdes. It's pulled chicken and caramelized onions on nacho chips, sprinkled with cheese. This dish used to be chock full of chicken. I found almost a whole onion and just two pieces of chicken in my dish today.
I figured I would bring the meal home and jazz it up to taste a little better. That didn't go well either.
Arturo's leadership was a team approach. I asked the man who brought our plates to us if I could have to-go containers, as opposed to asking the lady who took our order. I thought he didn't hear me because he kept going. I then said, "Sir" a couple of times and he walked off. In the end, I realized he had actually heard me because he sent our lady to the table and she asked if I needed to-go containers.

Read moreEl Toro Loco provided good food at a great value. The portions are large and most everyone enjoyed their meals. The only surprise for me was the menu's failure to mention jalapenos inside the burrito. I selected my burrito based on the ingredients listed and did not expect MANY sizeable chunks of jalepeno inside. It was too hot for me and the sheer quantity of jalapenos was distracting. My chief complaint is that their menu descriptions are not thorough or accurate. Everyone else enjoyed their food a lot and the portions were large. The atmosphere is that of a typical restaurant with booths around the perimeter and tables in the center. The tables are adequately spaced so that you feel like you have a reasonable amount of space between patrons. Service was okay.. our drinks ran out or low before we got refills. The waitress' presence was a bit too long in between checking to see if we needed anything. It wasn't horrible by any means, but we did have to look for and flag down the waitress 2 out of 3 times of need. It was a holiday and a Monday, so we're not sure how that may have played into the level of service we received. Over all, we would return to El Toro Loco for Mexican food. It met our expectations in most ways and the...
