Spent a fair amount of time here on Saturday and have some thoughts that hopefully this new brewery will consider. We tried 6 different beers and most were very good. Smokestack being the best, Catalonia tasting like absolutely nothing. Too loud. They need some barriers set up to control the bad acoustics. Needs some foam or something. You could tell music was playing through speakers, but no way to actually listen. All the noise was bouncing all over the place and you had to strain to hear the person next to you. I fear that a band or DJ would be overwhelming. No patio. How can you be in memphis without a patio? Put one on the roof or on the side where the food truck was. No parking. As far as we could tell there is no parking lot? The street was lined with cars and I'm sure the neighbors won't like that much. Had to walk a ways. The pricing situation is a nightmare. I get trying to be clever by calling the prices gold, platinum, and diamond, but it took a while to figure out how all this works. Just put the price next to the beer or something. There is also no size description and all the beers came in different size glasses. The bottleneck that is the ordering/pickup station. This is horrible and whoever designed this needs to reevaluate their skills. You have no idea which beer is which unless you ask. Also, not everyone goes by their first name(name on CC), so maybe ask for a name instead of assuming. I don't go by my first name so when someone says it I don't even register that they are calling my name. Some beers took 2 minutes to come out. Some took 15 minutes because they lost the ticket or something. Kids running around. Why are kids at a brewery in the first place? There is nothing for them to do and those of us that want an adult atmosphere were constantly being mowed down by absent parent children. Make it 21+. They do have a chill quiet room, but we didn't know about it til we were leaving. It was kinda weird. If your overstimulated or on the spectrum, this room is for you. Has board games.
If their beer shows up at Lucchesi's Beer Garten I will totally pick some up, but as is I don't think I'll be going back to the brewery until most of these issues are resolved. It was not an enjoyable experience.
But seriously...smoke stack...
Read moreGreat beer! My friends and I are craft beer enthusiasts. We went to Memphis with a group of 8 people for my birthday to sample Memphis’s local craft beer breweries. We visited 4 breweries in Memphis, and Soul and Spirits was our unanimous favorite! We all have our favorite beers,. Soul and Spirits had 28 beer varieties on tap so wether your favorite is a Pilsner, IPA, Larger, or Stout, Soul and Spirits beers body and flavors were the best.
They were the only brewery in Memphis that served and mastered the the art of English Draught beer. I am not a "bitters" fan of what is commonly called in the USA a "Bitter". However, I tried Souls and Spirits authentic draught English Bitter and it was amazing and actually ended up being one of my favorites.
The atmosphere of the brewery is well thought out as one section is set up like a traditional German beer hall, one section had the longest pub style bar in Memphis, and one section is set up with dart boards and tables games.
The owner and brew master Ryan was also there pouring beer. He took the time to talk with us, answer our questions, and explain his breweries vision which added to our visit.
We definitely will return to Soul and Spirits when we get...
Read moreMemphis enjoys a great local beer scene, and tons of contenders have excellent beers and spaces to enjoy.
Soul & Spirits, however, have clearly put a considerable amount of thought into their brewery. The qualities of this brewery are numerous, including: -Significant space of the main seating area -A quiet room for conversation -A game area for darts/giant chess/basketball -Excellent quality merch -A designated place for a food truck to keep parking free -The logo placed on the brackets beneath the bar -And of course the excellent quality beer
This location takes my favorite part of other breweries and wraps them up into one well executed package, all while being just outside of the traffic from downtown but not far from the exit ramp from the interstate.
Lastly, every employee I've been served by was excited and friendly, as if they know how great of a venue it is and how ingrained it can be in the Memphis fabric.
I would absolutely recommend...
