I've never been to Kinfolk, and riding up on my bicycle, it looked like such a quaint little neighborhood had been plucked out of some eastern European village and placed on the riverbank. I actually made a mistake, thinking the bar was self seat, and Kinfolk is currently a counter service restaurant. C/Krystal was kind enough to take my order anyway, and she talked me into a margarita. Fresh, delicious, a little too sweet, but I like mine sour, so you know for normal people it will be perfect. I got the MVP, scrambled with cheese, sausage, biscuit, fruit, and a griddle cake. Eggs, were firm but not dry, seasoned well, the sausage was nice red color showing spice and flavor, the hash brown was a cake, and I considered asking for ketchup. After the first bit, I knew I wouldn't be needing it. The sausage gravy and the biscuit were both excellent on their own, but together proved once again that biscuits and gravy can be the superior brunch option. Fruit was fruit, fresh, delicious. Now on to the star of the show, the griddle cake. It came after a few minutes and I was so wrapped up in the plate, that I forgot it was coming. I had a bite with the butter and it was the most exquisite taste, everything worked so well together, you got every flavor in the bite. Immaculate. I even added a fresh strawberry in one bite and it was so so good. All in all, this will become a staple everytime I come to Memphis, everytime someone asks me where to go on...
Read moreThe food here is hands down the best breakfast you can get in town. My first time there this morning, I'm a true believer.
However our service was atrocious. It wasn't even busy, we sat down as soon as we got there. I ordered black coffee. We got our meal and I was nearly done with it before I got my black coffee that burned my tongue it was so piping hot when it finally got to the table. At a well reviewed breakfast place I had to ask multiple times for her to remember my black coffee and then it was brought full of cream and sugar and I had to send it back to just get black coffee 30+ minutes after I ordered it.
Every single bite of food made up for this experience. Breakfast there was truly outrageously good. My plan was to just tip her poorly since she was the only weak link in the process but when we get the bill she says it's 20% autograt. That's fine, I get it, but in the absence of being able to provide her financial feedback about the experience I resolved to write this up here.
After we paid we realized we were actually double charged for the cup of coffee. We agreed it was just $4 and to not make a fuss about it.
Please fix this issue with your restaurant. The food was phenomenal but it was unnecessarily soured by such abysmal service. I simply don't think she should be waiting tables at...
Read moreSo I know a lot of people been talking about this place and I was excited to try. But kinda underwhelmed…. I love the concept and this place is so cute but the menu was very underwhelming and limited. Which is okay if that’s your thing.
The wait wasn’t that bad. The girl who checked us in was really nice. But this space is really small so if you have to wait you have to wait outside or in a very small bar area.
Be prepared they don’t take cash and you have to order and pay before you sit down. Which I wasn’t a fan of but whatever. You have to get your own water and it doesn’t come with ice lol.
For the food….. I was pretty satisfied with the portion sizes but the flavor was lacking. All I was tasting was a hard @$$ biscuit lol. Like idk if it was just the day but both of the chicken sandwiches biscuits was soooo hard. The biscuits and gravy biscuit was kinda saved because it was covered in gravy but the sandwich literally crumbled in my hands as I was eating it. Idk if that’s a thing but that kinda turned me off.
I heard they were really good at the pop ups but a little disappointed in the food I had today. I’ll probably come back once the hype dies down.
Overall okay experience. I will be back but...
