Tops Bar-B-Q — Restaurant in Memphis

I have always given Tops Bar-B-Que a raving review. Tops is no longer on the top of my must eat places. I loved the Bar-B-Q; however, on my most recent visits to two different locations, I was highly disappointed. My niece and I were in the area and visited the Frayser Blvd location about three weeks ago. It was horrible, the Tops taste was not there, the Tops as I know it was lacking. My niece did not finish her sandwich. My other niece and I visited the Jackson and Watkins location two days ago. A total waste of $28.?. Firstly, the way they ring up your receipt you are not sure what you are being charged. When questioned, the person who took our order and who was placing our order in the bag could/would not turn around to explain, only shaking her head no. No face to face communication, it was never explained. This is also the same cashier who was seen passing cash over the counter to a visiting gentleman. Secondly, it was the lunch time hour and we waited and others waited over 30 minutes for our order. People who placed their order long after us got their order before us and two gentlemen who clearly looked as though they were on their lunch break. Don't know what processing system they are using in the kitchen. Thirdly, if it is not broken, please don't fix it or try to fix it. The slaw was too sweet and my niece commented that there were too many celery seeds. The meat on my bun was nothing but chunks and piles up unchewable fat meat. A horrible mess and a total disappointment. We both wanted to experience Tops that day, our taste buds were screaming Tops..Tops..Tops. Lastly, please, I beg you to leave the beans alone. They are not broken! As always, they were delicious, but you want beans with your bar-b-q. These locations are not my usual location. I have not given up on Tops Bar-B-Q, I will not venture outside of my usual location, Summer Avenue. If you want a GOOD Tops Bar-B-Q, visit that location. Food is delicious, service is impeccable and you are never...

I've only eaten at Tops once before a few years ago. Crazy thing is, I lived off Jackson and Dunlap for over 20 years and never went to this location before now!!🤷🏿‍♀️With that being said, I will be back more often, because the #7 (1/4 Cheeseburger combo) is delicious! (You must wear a mask for service.)

I went in on a Saturday around 2 in the afternoon and there were about 6 or 7 customers waiting on their food orders and I was 3rd in line. It was easy to order and I was told that burgers are made to order so you have to give it a few more minutes. Basically, be patient... I didn't mind the 20+ minute wait, because as I mentioned before, that cheeseburger was delicious....old-school delicious😋...

I went back a little later in the afternoon to order another cheeseburger combo and beef brisket plate for someone else. There were less people inside but there was one angry customer in particular. He was venting to another customer that he had just left another Tops and came to this one only to have to wait another 30 minutes for his order.😬 He was visibly upset even with the mask on. (I could totally understand.) Then 3 to 4 other people came in and placed their orders. 2 of these were very frustrated with the wait time mostly because the women in the back cooking the food were yapping away and joking around a little too much and too loudly and had customers waiting a lot longer had they been on task a little more. Two of the female employees even used profanity when they got a little heated with one another. I think it had to have been a manager who spoke up and we all heard, "Okay, now. We got customers out there. Let's respect our customers." Then the conversation toned down a bit.

Anyway, the food is good. Sometimes the service is not so good, I guess. But, I didn't really have any complaints on this particular visit, though. Like I said, I will come back and I will try other menu items. The food is worth the...

Had a terrible experience the cooks were TOTALLY unfocused the lady taking drive thru orders was complaining about the call in orders she made the ENTIRE energy there HORRIBLE the manager attitude was nice/nasty they didn't get my CALL in order right which was still unprepared & had me WAIT 15 mins AFTER I called PRIOR to arriving... the manager himself over the phone said it would be 15 mins after I FIRST called in my order ... I ordered 2 double cheeseburger combos after waiting those ADDITIONAL 15 mins I got my order.. I left went home only to find out that my order was STILL wrong....so I returned back only for the 2nd try to find it STILL was WRONG after the 1st try.... I asked for double fries and baked beans even after waiting still to find upon returning home they gave me 1 fry and triple baked beans I just didn't feel like trying with these ppl a 3RD TIME!!!...so I'm at home disappointed... ALL their attitudes were not interested in providing GOOD QUALITY customer service.. .from the manager to his employees ONLY thing they provided was a TERRIBLE/INSENSITIVE experience...its TRULY TRULY SAD when a customer is made to feel bad when simply asking & receiving what they paid for...I will NOT be subjected to such ridiculous NOR foolishness patronizing that location EVER again...I...
