Appreciate the great tasting consistency of this place and of course the friendly, welcoming employees. Memphis has many authentic food options. This is our favorite Pho place in Memphis, consistently good food and service. I do not say 'best' because if there is not a competition it simply is not so, taste is subjective. On Cleveland between Madison and Poplar. The place is clean, including rest rooms. Items on the tables need to be cleaned, wiped off a bit more. This visit there was a cigarette smoke smell that I could not tell if another guest or an employee or the vent system. It is not a normal issue, I let them know. Seemed to be a couple newer employees. Missed the sweet little older lady. We occasionally try other locations but end up back at this place. We ordered three dishes and ended up with two take-away containers as the portions are a good size. This will make a couple more meals of left-overs. Share a meal would have been a better choice and is our norm with the regular bowl of pho and fresh spring rolls as an appetizer. Please note that 'vegetarian' on the menu does not mean vegetarian, it means vegetables. Fish sauce or chicken broth may still be present so ask. Vegan and vegetarian options are available, and the terms are understood. The fortune cookies were no longer the same, instead of fortunes it is US sayings and also crumbly/sweet so we will skip them in the future. All other items still tasty and authentic compared to my visits to Vietnam, Vietnamese friends.

I was so excited to try this restaurant’s pho because I recently moved to Memphis. The service wasn’t great to begin with but when they brought the bowl, the pho looked and smelled delicious. The taste was decent and I wasn’t even halfway into my bowl when I noticed a bug in it. I told the waitress about it and she said “what do you want me to do?” I replied saying that I’ve never had an experience like this so that I wasn’t sure. They told me they would give me a 10% discount and I said absolutely not as I hadn’t even eaten half my dish and wasn’t planning on eating the rest. I then asked if I could speak to the manager myself to which she said no. She said they could make another bowl but I was too disgusted at that point and lost my appetite. I saw the manager walk out but he didn’t even come up to apologize or speak to me during this entire encounter. It was a terrible and uncomfortable experience.

I found Vietnam Café ! Years ago, it used to be located on Poplar to the east of Cleveland, near the McDonalds. Apparently the Kroger gas station is where it was. They've relocated and changed their name but the food is still so good. I was searching for dry tofu like the crispy lemongrass tofu Sen Trang (Pho Hoa Binh before) since they've closed again. I found it ! The lemongrass tofu dish is so delicious, it has better flavor than the Vietnamese place closest to me. The fish sauce was so good I literally wanted to drink the rest of it I didn't use. 😄

We visit this place twice. First visit was not very pleasant... well, as many other pho restaurants here, they are using rice vermicelli instead of the original pho.

So for the second visit, I ordered the lemongrass chicken with the rice and it was great (it did brought the nostalgic Asian taste 👌🏻✨). However, when we ordered one more dish (because we are big eaters lol. Don't get me wrong, the portion here was okay-- although it's not comparable to other places that I reviewed with 'fair/big portion' comments). The additional order took so long (while they were actually not that busy at that time). We waited for quite a while, almost 20 minutes before decided to ask them, and guess what?

They bagged it as a to go order. Note that when we ordered it we didn't ask for to go. We finally ended up leaving the restaurant half-full because our lunch time was almost over and we have to come back to work. We have no choice but to leave the to go order on the table until it get lonely and cold and didn't taste the same anymore when we get home to warm it up :(

Overall, it's a nice place to eat. It's clean, quite spacey, with okay portion and pretty authentic taste. We weren't very satisfied with the service, but the food alone is enough to make us want to visit here again. Perhaps when we have a lot of time to wait. We understand that most of the workers are seniors, so they might need more time to prepare the food. Therefore, please don't be discouraged to visit this place because of...

This is why i haven’t been coming to this place to dine in few times visited in a year with a friend & this days, felt discussed so ZERO visit to this one. The customer service is super awful!! We get to choose our seat wherever we wanted. This place is not very busy & tables aren’t clean at all. As you walk inside, to the right, looks mess & disorganized at all times. It’s super cluttered & not hasn’t been cleaned or organized in years. A woman behind cash register counter is super rude & elderlies who’s at least looks about in 70’s, wears casual clothes & serves the food WITHOUT name tag, WITHOUT apron on & brings out the food by HANDS. They are so very forgetful to bring out what we ask for as an extras, so we had to keep repeating. It’s hard to understand their words so ends up getting wrong orders. They will be having a native talk, after talk & will make you wait at least 10-15 min. before anyone brings you a menu or the water before coming to take your order. Parking lot is very limited so sometimes you have to park across from the street & walk. I would never waste my gas & drive 30 min. again to get this kind of service as a customer from them. They should deserve an extra special surprise inspection...
