Golden Crust Bakery — Restaurant in Mentor

This place is out of sight. For anyone who was sad that Jack Frost was on the other side of town, fret no more. With the sad exception of a bacon covered maple doughnut, Golden Crust destroys all the competition. The cinnamon rolls had zero dry patches and were actually even better on day two. The doughnuts were so light and soft and fresh, the icing, both maple and chocolate were the best you could hope for. The Russian Tea Cake was the best I've ever had, just jammed with raspberry and raisins, sturdy enough to eat with coffee, but soft enough to eat alone. The cinnamon doughnut was first in class compared to other shops. And the chocolate creme filled, my personal favorite variety, was to die for. The only thing we didn't care for was the snuggle. The guy recommended we microwave it, which did make it a lot better, but was still so far below what you'd expect after tasting their other goods it's best to stay clear. The chocolate chip cookies were good, but not the reason I'll be going back again and again. (And yes, all this info was obtained in only two visits.) Multiple employees have said their cakes are the best around, and I imagine if they're bragging about those more than the doughnuts, they're probably killer; that'll be visit #3. The facility is clean and the 3 people that helped us in our two visits were incredibly nice and personable. If there is another bakery within 100 miles that holds a candle to this place...

Very unhappy. I ordered a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for my son’s birthday but what I got was a very thick and dense raisin walnut bread (not fluffy carrot cake) with buttercream frosting (no cream cheese frosting). My kids couldn’t eat it and when I tried to ask for a replacement he asked me to bring the rest back in to the bakery and then was rude, basically insinuating that I don’t know what a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is supposed to taste like and said I should’ve sampled the cake before ordering. He offered me no refund and gave me a replacement smaller chocolate cake from the case (the only one left) of a much lesser cost. The carrot cake I ordered was very expensive, so I lost money and he lost a customer for life. A simple offer to make a cake of EQUAL value (of a different type) would’ve been fine or an offer of a refund without being rude …and he still would’ve...

The donuts are good when you can catch one . I understand that they are not open late , they should still supply donuts past the morning. If you get there after 9 you're just SOL if you want a donut . Even if they just made an extra 3-4 dozen and ran out at noon instead of mid morning that would be understandable. The staff is always polite and the baked goods are tasty though 😋 Honestly though I've only tried the other baked goods because they had no more donuts 😂Just didn't want to look strange walking in and turning back around 🤷🏾‍♀️ I've learned to not care anymore though & I just leave if they don't have any and save...
