I will preface this by saying this is my first ever experience with Korean BBQ
I'll start with the highlight of the visit, which was the(and I don't use this word often) exemplary service by all staff we interacted with. Like, it felt like good hotel quality of service, probably the best service I've had at a restaurant in years. I finished the water at the table and remarked to the people that I was eating with that we are out of water, and someone clearing tables two tables away overheard me and said she would get us more water as soon as she finished what she was in the middle of. However, our server returned shortly and took care of it without being asked. Huge shout-out to our server Oscar and the rest of the staff, you guys should be proud of yourselves.
The food I'm giving a 4 star. The chicken bulgogi and salmon especially were very good, however a good portion of the rest of our food was a bit bland. They had a very good dry rub available and a sauce or two, and the food was definitely good, just not 5 star good. I do like that unlimited appetizers and desert is included with the decent selection of meat, the only thing you pay extra for is drinks, but when they ran out of soda halfway through our meal they just took it completely off of the bill because we couldn't get refills. A suggestion I would give is have pineapple rings as a menu option, the citrus flavor would go great with the food we ate, and the freshness of it will help with the fairly fatty pork and beef. Also, the glass noodles slap, definitely pick some up when you come. I will say if you don't have any experienced chefs in your party, try to stick with easier to cook things like the bulgogi, as it's pretty easy to mess something like the salmon up if you aren't careful. We had two cooks in our party which was a good number to manage a full grill worth of meat at all times. Also, please give tongs that can open a bit wider, they were somewhat difficult to work with at times.
The atmosphere of the place was also very good, absolutely no complaints here.
Overall, I currently highly recommend this place, and with some time to expand and refine the menu, this will absolutely be a stand out place to eat in the...
Read moreIf your new to Korean BBQ, this place is for you. If your well established with the Korean food culture, you’d be disappointed. I don’t know where to begin. Server- was attentive at first, but then disappeared for way too long. Had to ask multiple times for simple things like, straws, napkins, rice, more water, refills. Server didn’t know what kind of food she was dealing with, as she didn’t know how to handle or describe any of the sauces. When I received my bill, the charges were wrong. I was charged too much and didn’t realize until after I paid. When the server came back I asked her what the extra charges were, and asked if it could be corrected, she handed me back a little cash. I also asked for a copy of the receipt, to which I was told “ If you pay cash, a receipt doesn’t print out for you. We don’t ever give receipts for cash customers” I wasn’t refunded the correct amount as I was also charged for a 20% gratuity. So I felt like the server got what she wanted. So beware of what your being charged. Food- the bulgogi was good. Taste just like any other bulgogi. The rest of the food was very bland and had no taste. The only 2 things on the menu that tasted right was the bulgogi and the mochi. The Korean fried chicken was very disappointing. The crunch was there, but it was so plain. On the menu it says Korean fried chicken, only what we got was, fried chicken that probably wasn’t seasoned. I was expecting a garlic soy sauce since the menu stated Korean fried chicken. This is my first time having the Korean fried chicken so plain. Ventilation- there are no vents. So known that going in you’ll be cooking, your going to leave smelling like smoked meat. There is no ventilation. Overall- I wouldn’t return. Id do the stretch to North IL for a Korean BBQ. I could deal with the poor customer service, but the food wasn’t worth it. Lastly, what did it for me was the end of the night and my check. I was way over charged. The server acknowledged it, apologized and thought it was best to just hand me a little cash back. That was most...
Read moreOverly priced. I'm a foodie for sure. Well versed in Korean BBQ. From having Korean BBQ from East n West coast to MN and Chicago... my rate of this place is:
Meat selections were pretty decent. Side dishes that you order aside from the meats all came out room temp. Not so great. Ordered a few noodles dishes and they were bland n room temp including the dumplings. The condiments that were already laid out to eat with your Korean BBQ was OK. It was overly priced for a place like this. $40 for adults, kids 5 to 9 was $30. Meats n marinade from the few items we ordered was tasty. A few were bland. Shrimp was fresh.
The one thing I did not like at all was that there was no ventilation. Usually places I've been to like this has an over head ventilation above the cooking area. For someone who has breathing issues, asthma, or sensitivity... I'd be cautious. It left me having some difficulty and the smell gave my soon to be mother in law a migraine. It left us smelling strongly of the reaking of the smell of the food n burnt grill. My glasses were caked n smeared of the fumes/gasses. And honestly I barely cooked, my fiance did most of the cooking. That's how strong the fumes were. Ventilation system needed bad.
Service was pretty good and attentive.
One major thing I have noticed about my ventures to Mequon and most of its restaurants is that it is catered to the "American taste" if you don't know any better and the lack of taste bud experience in the real dining you will like this place. All the food in my opinion in this area does not taste good but expect overly priced due to the area.
I noticed they responded to my post with a bit of defensiveness... but my point here is that there was definitely not enough ventilation. If the BBQ smoke is extreme n going up in the air... either ur hostesses waitress did not turn it on or it...
