Meh. We ate dinner for the first time here tonight because we are looking for a wedding rehearsal dinner location, and I’m not sure if we’ll be back based on the experience.
I first noticed how cold the dining room was. The doors to the enclosed porch area were open, and it was super drafty inside. It was only 40 degrees outside tonight. I’m rarely cold but I had a cocktail so I could warm up.
We ordered the poutine boats for an appetizer, which are potato skins with white cheese curds, stout gravy, and drizzled with sour cream and chives. The potatoes were room temp at best, the curds were cool/cold in the middle, and the gravy was watery. We ate them because we were so hungry, hence ordering an appetizer. These could have been so awesome, and they were not.
We ordered two burgers - the 1857 and the classic. My burger was under done. I ordered it medium, and it was bloody and not even a little warm inside, dripping red juice all over my plate. When the server asked if fries were ok, I asked what my other options were. He said one was the chef’s veggies, which were green beans, so I ordered that. When my plate came, it was broccoli. The person who brought it out asked if I wanted something else, and I said that I’d try it. They were so, so salty that I couldn’t even eat them. I didn’t say anything because I just wanted to eat and leave. When the server came by a little while later, I showed him and informed him that it was different from what he told me. He said that sometimes the kitchen changes the veggie mid-service and doesn’t tell the servers (what??). He apologized and later came back and said he wouldn’t charge me. I thanked him. When we got the bill, I noticed that I was still charged for the burger. I’d NEVER expect or ask to not be charged for the burger, but given that it was still on the bill, that makes me think that there was an up-charge for veggies for the side instead of fries, which he never told us about. Again, I didn’t say anything because I never expected to not be charged for my meal.
I don’t know. It was a Wednesday night at about 6:30-7pm. The dining room was about half full at most, but it really wasn’t that busy. I was hoping for a better experience and was kind of disappointed. I would have thought that, since it wasn’t too busy, more attention to detail would have come from...
Read moreFirst time here. They just opened a couple days ago.
Started with 4.6% ABV Oatmeal Stout in a tiny glass. Way too hoppy, both flavor and bitterness, for an oatmeal stout with low alcohol. Aroma and body decent. Can't tell what it tastes like because my taste buds are burned out from the hops. I really wanted more oatmeal maltyness and less American APA hoppiness.
Talked to the manager after my meal and they will be serving the stout in a pint glass from now on. Seems there was some confusion about it and he is getting it settled.
The rest of the beers look to all be traditional styles. Although, I did see a Pilsner on the screen that said it has 41 IBUs! Wow! Not at all traditional. I was told they are in the process of making more non-traditional beers.
Let's see how the food is ...
The sandwich was called Sauerbraten Bahn Mi. German and Vietnamese together. The meat is very good. Tender and great flavor. The sauerbraten flavor is strong but not overwhelming. Good balance. The cabbage is fresh and crispy. It is not bitter, which is good. The sauce fits in the mix well. The French roll is soft and does not flake off as I bite into it. That is refreshing as I don't like dried out bread. There is a little crisp dried out toast at the edges, but very little so it is acceptable. As I reached the other end of it, the sauce was thin and had spilled out into the plate. That made the bread wet and messy on the bottom. Not terribly. Just something to watch out for.
The fries are crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. Not overly greasy. They are a bit too salty though.
The building is interesting. Looks like plenty of space for eating.
I am at the bar. Only a few people. So far service is great! He can describe all of the menu items. Good training to go with good service! He knows the beers, but we are in disagreement on what glass a classic oatmeal stout...
Read moreI am extremely disappointed to be writing this review right now. My wife and I moved to the area a couple of years ago and this restaurant quickly became a favorite.
Today, 10/11/2025, I came in with some friends from out of town to share with them one of our local favorite restaurants in celebration of their upcoming wedding. I cannot believe what we just had happen to us.
We were checked in and put on a waitlist at 2:26 PM and had a 40 minute wait (at this time, there were many open tables, but I do understand a wait).
When we were eventually seated, it took a waitress 10 minutes to come to the table to take a drink order (wait staff and bartenders were not busy and were conversing at the wait kiosk and bar). When she did come, she took the order, and we did not receive drinks for 15 minutes. After receiving drinks, no one came to take at order for another 20 minutes. At this point, I was extremely disappointed having already waited 25 minutes to receive a drink and now 45 minutes to have someone take our order which still had not happened. I went to the wait kiosk and explained the wait and that I would like my bill, as we would be leaving. At this time, the waitress explained to me that she couldn’t give me the bill until they had found our table in the system. I said “okay” and sat back down. We waited another 10 minutes before my wife went back up and demanded the bill again. She found out that our waitress had left from work and no one knew we were there and had completely lost the bill. They said they would be telling their manager about this, but no manager ever came to the table to apologize at any point.
I am beyond disappointed in a place that I loved. I will not be returning and will not refer any of the friends and family that we had planned to bring anytime...
