Gateway Pizza-N-Subs — Restaurant in Merced

Just tried the pizza for the 1st time tonight. I have lived in Merced for many years and have tried all the pizza places, but wanted to try something new. I searched pizza on google and saw this place had really good reviews except for 1 review where someone said the owner was really rude. I ordered a small pizza and a few subs which were all incredible. The subs are delicious and the pizza is outstanding. It is really authentic and delicious. I live on the north east side of town off bear creek, but it is definitely worth the drive. I was thinking since the restaurant isn't in the best side of town it might be a little dirty inside when come to find out it is very clean inside. I will be going back soon. I am unsure who would write a review stating the owner is rude when in reality he is a very nice person after talking to him....

I love a good pizza and/or sub once in a while, but I'm from New England and have generally found California's versions of these things to be sub-par. I've been told by friends who own pizza places back east that's it's because of the water used for the dough; something about western water isn't quite right. Gateway is the best place I've found out west though for pizza and subs. The subs are great, as good as any place in Boston or Philly, and the pizza comes close. This was the first time I had pizza at this place. My mom invited me for take out. This pizza was so well made! It was perfectly baked. The pizza crust had the perfect bite! It had a light and dainty crisp, while soft and chewy. The pepperoni was nice and toasty. It had the perfect amount of cheese and pepperoni. It's all I can think about since having it for dinner last night 😁😍🥰😋 I can't wait to take some home to my family!! My mom said you gotta try their fries next time!!...
