I had a truly disappointing and distressing experience at the Red Roof Inn Meriden during my stay from May 23 to May 27, 2024. As someone who has stayed here twice a year for many years, I never expected such poor service, lack of basic amenities, and unsafe conditions. Unfortunately, this stay will be my last.||1. No Hot Water for Two Nights|For the first two nights of our stay, there was no hot water in the room. Despite contacting the front desk and receiving a suggestion to run the sink before turning on the shower, the issue was never resolved. We were unable to enjoy basic amenities like hot water for showers, which was a major inconvenience.||2. Spotty Roku TV Service|The Roku TV service was extremely unreliable throughout our stay. We were unable to use it, which was another advertised amenity that failed to meet expectations. It seems like basic in-room entertainment should be a given, but it was a letdown.||3. Disturbing and Alarming Safety Concerns|On our last night, things took a very concerning turn. Around midnight, we started hearing loud noises and disturbing sounds from the room next door. By 3:00 AM, there were loud screams and banging that made us fear for the safety of the people involved. I honestly thought someone was being hurt. My husband went to the front desk, and their response was nonchalant. They didn’t take any action to resolve the situation or even check the room. This was extremely unsettling, and we were left feeling unsafe. We ultimately felt compelled to leave the hotel at 3:30 AM, cutting our stay short.||4. Poor Customer Service from the Manager|When I tried to address these serious issues with Mike, the hotel manager, he was dismissive and unhelpful. He told me that there was nothing they could do and refused to issue a refund or provide any compensation for the problems we encountered. He even went as far as to dismiss my concerns, implying that I was lying about my experience. Despite the ongoing issues, Mike was unwilling to offer any kind of satisfactory resolution.||5. No Help from Priceline|Since I booked through Priceline, I reached out to them for assistance. Unfortunately, Priceline also refused to take any action, stating that because Red Roof Inn didn’t want to provide a refund, they couldn’t do anything about it either. This was incredibly frustrating, as I felt like I had nowhere to turn for help.||Final Thoughts|I am deeply disappointed in the way Red Roof Inn Meriden handled my stay. The lack of basic amenities, the unresolved safety concerns, and the poor customer service have made this one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. I expected much more from a well-known hotel chain. Given the severity of the issues, I am requesting a full refund, but I’m not sure how far that will get me, especially considering the lack of support from both Red Roof Inn and Priceline.||I urge anyone considering this hotel to think twice before booking, especially if you expect basic service, safety, and responsiveness. I highly recommend avoiding this location unless they take significant steps to improve their service and...
Read moreOverall, OK visit. Was there for about a week or so.
Suggestion for improvement: • Door stop, magnetic hold, or something else that will hold the door open while bringing in your stuff.
Problems w/ room: • Small counter space in bathroom. • No TV guide on TV itself; only a list of channels in the room. • Hair dryer burnt out 4x. • Mildew under soap dish in shower. (I took a picture.) • No washing machines or dryers in hotel. • Excel & Word don't work on their "Business Center" computer. • Keys don't always work.
Incidents that occurred during my visit: • Pressed elevator button & waited for 1 to arrive. Right after 1 opened, I went to go in but the male maid happened to be walking down the hall right at the same time it opened & walked right in front of me (while I was trying to walk inside it) & walked right in w/o saying excuse me or letting me in 1st. Honestly, he didn't even slow down either. Just walked right past me w/o any concern. • At the front desk, I asked the girl (who was busy writing something down) for a "Do Not Disturb" sign. She mumbled something so softly (while not looking up) that it was very hard to hear what she said. While still busy writing something & me standing there, I thought maybe she didn't hear. So I said, "Hello???" She rudely replies, "I told you, 'Hang on, 1 minute.' " Wow! Seriously??? • Asked them not to clean my room, but they still tried to anyways. I understand that they have to check the room in the middle of the stay (just to make sure everything is ok) & that's fine, but when I ask for you not to clean the room, why would you still sending in a maid to clean the room??
I made suggestions last year, but I did not see any of them this year, so I doubt they will make any further changes. I'm almost certain that will NOT be back next year....mainly due to customer service issues, but also because of the lack of changes or improvement in the hotel.
PS: If management responds to this review, nothing you will say will make the situation better. Actions speak louder than words, so I suggest you make improvements instead of writing a response. ...
Read moreRooms are okay. Updated and have hard wood floors but the floors were scuffed and needed to be buffed and cleaned they had lost the shine. I had a room with a king size bed but it didn't have a refrigerator nor a microwave. Apparently you have to ask for that and pay extra to get it. The heater/ac unit was HORRIBLE when I went to turn it on it was so LOUD it honestly sounded as if a truck was coming through the room and finally after messing with it for a few minutes it started to slowly but surely quite down but only cold air was blowing out of it so again I wait for a few minutes and also maki a phone call to the front desk to request a new room and be denied did it begin to blow warm air eventually (hour or so later) reaching the desired temperature I'd originally set it to. It really wasn't worth the money spent $75 (after taxes &fees) and despite what their advertisement may mention about breakfast they don't offer any thing not even the coffee stand is opened just a few vending machines with not much for options. The wifi for some reason was extremely slow to the point I had to switch the my phones hotspot to get any done online. Also the day shift employees at the front desk are all quite unimpressive one way or another & one of them a middle eastern man is just very rude and abrasive and also quick to deny any services and refuses to help in any sort of way. Also when speaking to females he is very disrespectful and demanding compared to males where he is still his manners are horrible but not nearly as abrasive toward men as he is towards females both employees and guests. Honestly the only positive thing I can say about the place was the older male who checked me in (worked evening shift) was great. He was sociable and pleasant and couldn't be more helpful answering all my questions and even informing me of things I hadn't thought to ask but definitely benefitted in knowing. So needless to say after this less than experience I won't be returning here any time soon. Just not at all what I expected especially after reading the reviews and checking them out on my price line account.
