The Asian Invasion is a small mom and pop restaurant in Meriden that serves a mix of all types of Asian cuisine ranging from Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, and Filipino. I wouldn't classify it as Asian Fusion though more like a restaurant that serves individual dishes indicative of those countries. This was my first visit here and I focused my ordering on Filipino dishes. I can't speak to whether or not what I ordered was "authentic". I'm only basing my review on whether or not it tasted good. Started with an order of Lumpia which are basically the Filipino version of the egg roll, similar to the Vietnamese version in size and shape. They were filled with pork and come with a dipping sauce. They are ok but nothing to write home about. Next dish was Pork Adobo. A Filipino dish consisting of pieces of pork accompanied with broccoli, baby corn and string beans in gravy. The gravy was very soupy and could have been thickened (although I don't know if the dish was meant to be served this way). Once again the dish was just ok. I would say mundane at best. Basically something that you would make at home after a long day at work. Next came Whole Tilapia in a Tamarind sauce. I would classify this as a Thai dish. Also just ok. Final dish was Chicken Pancit Bihon, a Filipino rice noodle dish. This was my favorite dish here. A simple homy dish that just tasted good. Washed down the meal with Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee (both with Bubbles). The bubbles were hard and the drinks themselves were not well made. Service was mediocre. They were very friendly but not the most professional of operations. There was a baby playpen blocking the hallway to the restrooms. They were out of a couple of items after I ordered. It was the middle of the week so I wasn't overly disappointed but I initially ordered the Whole Pompano and they were out. My issue with this particular item was that they listed it on the "handwritten" Specials board. Leads me to wonder if that board has ever been changed. Another inconsistency was the listing for Lumpia on the menu. In the Filipino dishes part of the menu it states 7 pcs per order and in the Appetizer section it lists 6 pcs per order (I got 6 pcs). Drinks took a while to come and I'm sure if it were busier they would be easily overwhelmed. All in all The Asian Invasion is an interesting concept for a restaurant. A little bit of everything for those who can't decide what type of Asian style cuisine they're in the mood for. I went mainly Filipino so I can't speak to the other dishes. I thought the food was average. Service while...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI got the small shrimp pho. It was sooo good. The shrimp was fresh, I was surprised. Lol. I couldn't eat it all but that's fine because the price was right on point. Approx $7 for a small and I think 9/$10 for a large pho. I also got chicken green curry to go. I liked it but I probably would get the pho only and try other things too.
The staff was really nice to me and even brought me some fruit for dessert. A very pleasant experience and I will return. I just wish they were closer to my house. Maybe I'll try uber eats next time but there's nothing like eating it fresh off the stove so we'll see.
While I was there a food delivery service company was asking about an order. I guess the patron didn't answer their phone and they couldn't figure out what flavor sauce they wanted. So the owner guessed bbq sauce and added in a fancy boba drink for them as compensation. I thought that was so nice, great customer...
