We made a family visit to Fanci Freez with varied results. First, the good: I tried their Huckleberry Burger (yes, you read that correctly -- Huckleberry) and it was surprisingly good. They put huckleberry glaze in place of regular condiments. It was quite sweet which was an interesting flavor profile. I wouldn't choose it often instead of savory options; however, it was a fun experience. My wife had the Mushroom Burger and it was very good -- plenty of thinly sliced grilled mushrooms with lettuce and Swiss cheese. Two grandsons had dipped ice cream cones -- chocolate dipped in chocolate and vanilla dipped in butterscotch. They didn't talk much because they were too busy eating. The cones were large and threatened to melt before they could finish. The other grandson had a medium Oreo shake and complained that it was too thick... To me, that is a good thing -- who wants a thin shake?! This teenager, who normally is a bottomless pit when it comes to food, couldn't quite finish his shake -- another positive. My wife & I love huckleberries (evidenced by my choice of burgers); therefore, we shared a large Huckleberry Shake. It had plenty of whole berries and good thick ice cream. It was a tasteful delight! The only problem is that the fruit kept getting stuck in the over-sized straw. We had to ask for a spoon to enjoy most of the huckleberries [see my second photo]. In our book, that is not much of a problem. Now, for the downsides: I asked for grilled onions on my burger; however, they were not grilled. The overall flavor was fine anyway; but I expect restaurants to get the order done correctly. The Italian Soda and Spin drinks for my daughter and son-in-law didn't get prepared until they went back to the counter and inquired about them. For some reason, the staff forgot to complete the entire order. The place was only medium-busy on a Thursday evening; so there is really no good excuse for that oversight. Son-in-law liked his Orange Spin whereas daughter said Sonic's Italian sodas are better. Good / bad??: The first chocolate dipped cone was a medium size instead of the large which was ordered. When the error was noted, the staff quickly prepared a large cone. That grandson was happy because he now had a cone in each hand. Back to the good: The servers were pleasant and responded well when the issues were brought to their attention. They quickly fixed their errors without any poor attitude. Overall, we had a...
Read moreNot gonna lie, I have been super excited for Fanci Freez in Meridian. Was pretty much counting down the days and... I couldn't be more dissapointed. All in all I sat in line for nearly an hour... Early on, I was excited when I saw an employee making their way down the line of cars, only to hand me a menu and tell me to be ready. No greeting, no recommendations, no apologies for the wait, nothing... So, unknowingly, I took her advice and prepared myself. The same employee then made her way with a portable register and took my order. I wanted to keep it simple as it was obvious a big order would only add to the problems... I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with gems and 2 shakes. I paid... and proceeded to wait... After about 15 mins a vehicle that was 2 cars behind me received their order and was able to drive away, still not sure what that was all about... No bother, I'm still waiting. No acknowledgement, nothing... 30 mins have past and my excitement has turned to frustration. What is happening? By the time I made it to the window the poor girl didn't know which order was what. And in fact couldnt locate my order at all. She asked me what my order was about 4 more times before closing the window and walking away only to return a few minutes later and inform me that my order was already closed out?? She basically threw my burger out the window and held it at an extremely awkward angle whilst looking inside the building and not focusing on the simple hand off of food. Again, it is what it is... I then sat at the window for nearly 20 mins while they prepared my shakes. Apparently it takes 20 mins to make 2 shakes. The whole time I sat at the window I watched what I can only assume is the manager mingling with guests that sat at outdoor tables. Not once did I see him enter the building and assist with the ridiculously long line of cars in the drive thru. I later learned my burger was cooked well before I got to the window, my fries, not gems, were ice cold. The little receipt tag on top of the box said there was fry sauce... Nope. If this is what I can expect with your new establisment I might as well walk to the the downtown location... I would probably have my...
Read moreVery "mid". My burger was bland, not seasoned. My fries would have been okay if not for the mix of over done and under done fries. The shake we ordered was not mixed properly. I had high hopes for this one, only to be let down. About on par with Sonic as far as quality.
Update: 5/28/25
Just wanted to take the time and thank Nick for replying to my review. I believe that's a very good thing to do vs turning a blind eye.
I revisited this place today and unfortunately was disappointed again. Not a whole lot of improvement was seen with the quality of food I was offered.
It's wasn't all doom and gloom. Our drinks were good. The fries and onion rings were cooked to perfection. That was one improvement vs my last visit.
Everything else though failed. Both of our burgers had incorrect toppings, condiments, and cheese. It was all wrong. Worse still, is that the burgers still seem to not be seasoned. So the burgers end up being bland as a result. A very unfortunate mistake that continues to happen even a year later. I did not reply to the offered email, because I did not want a doctored order. I wanted a real order that would be the same for everyone else.
It's very unfortunate, because your main competitor is right across the Street. Sonic.
A boring major chain like Sonic shouldn't be beating you in the burger game. You have all the cards in your hand to completely blow them outta the water, yet it still doesn't happen. They are beating you at your own game with the lowest effort possible. You gotta play those cards right and step up your game!
Until that happens, I have to settle on Sonic for a burger that's close by. I would like that to be the opposite, but it isn't.
One final thing: We were given fry sauce with our order. Which is great, I love fry sauce. I was disappointed to see it was pre-packaged fry sauce from a restaurant vendor.
There's nothing wrong with it, it tastes fine. But I was hoping a burger place like this would make their own fry sauce in house vs buying premade stuff. I'd expect to see this stuff in a cafeteria or grocery store deli. Not a hip looking burger...
