2024 Update: They are still amazing!! Please go eat here if you are reading this!! If you aren't sure if you would like it, go on a day the boats are running and sample to your hearts content. It is the easiest way to figure out what sushi you like and are ridiculously affordable ($20 for 10 plates on the boats). Shige's takes immense pride in the quality and freshness of their fish used, and you can tell. You won't find better quality fish/meats anywhere else in Idaho (even going so far as to have authentic fresh Wagu Niguri on the menu recently). You will never have to worry about what you are eating here, and it will taste absolutely delicious. So whether you are a sushi veteran or just trying to get someone else into it, this is the place for you. Shige, his family, and all of the staff are nothing short of perfect and make every customer feel like part of their family. They love to chat and are happy to explain any dishes/ingredients, recommend new things to try, take requests, or are happy to show off new ideas they are trying! I've never seen anyone leave unhappy or even mildly discontent. I have even gone so far as to recommend them to folks visiting Idaho on a trip and have been informed by a New Yorker who I brought here that Shiges is probably the best sushi resteraunt they've had, and between the food and the atmosphere they beat out even NYC's sushi bars. They go here every time they visit and have never been disappointed. So, if my essay of a review isn't enough, just read this: Try it. You won't regret it, and it will be your new favorite resteraunt. (P.S. I personally recommend the G Roll. It's a house roll and one of my favorites)
2021: Love the food and being able to have such a variety without spending too much! Great for a date while...

I came to Shige Sushi about two years ago and had perhaps the worst restaurant experience in my life. My review is the one that speaks of coworkers fighting, sushi COVERED in mayo and perhaps the worst sushi I've ever eaten. The manager/owner invited me to go back so here I was. This is my two year update from that experience. I came back on a whim to see if things had changed since then.
First off, the boats are not working (covid restrictions?) so they are operating like a normal sushi restaurant. I was curious to see how it would be. One thing I noticed is there is a new floor manager who is VERY aware of the customers. Not sure her name but she wasnt overbearing and made sure everyone was having a good experience. I ordered 3 sushi rolls from the lunch menu. The waiter brought out a free salad (nice touch) while I waited for my food. I also felt that this time the restaurant was way cleaner and had a better experience.
The sushi came out quickly, along with a bowl of miso. Apparently all sushi rolls during lunch come with the complimentary salad and miso. One thing to note, the rolls come with 6 pieces, not 8. The sushi was fresh and I am glad to report that this experience was WAY better than the previous experience. The waiting staff did a great job of keeping tabs on people without being overbearing. Seriously, I'm glad to say that they did a great job. Night and day difference. Whether it was better staffing and/or...
