Edit: 6/28/23
Pains me to have to update this review, but if I was the owner of the business I'd want to know how it was doing from the perspective of the consumer, so I'll share my experience as of late.
The place has slipped quite a bit ever since COVID. I'm diagnosed celiac, so initially this place was a godsend. Whenever I needed a sweet pick me up, BMC was there. However, the space is more competitive now. Allergen friendly foods are more abundant, and now that inflation is through the roof, everyone's feeling the financial pinch more than ever.
It had been months since I've stopped in but I was curious how they've been, so I dropped by earlier today. The place seemed more cramped than it had been. I recall they used to have two cases of GF baked goods, but now it's been cut down to one. The selection was much smaller too, and there seemed to be a greater emphasis on dairy free/vegan treats than before... So if that's your thing, go nuts I guess.
The lady at the counter was nice and friendly, always a plus. I was kind of shocked when I found out that 1 cupcake, and 1 piece of coffee cake came to almost $14. I'm well aware allergen friendly baked goods always come with a premium, but that's outrageous. For $14, I'd rather go crazy at whole foods on some packaged GF treats.
Taste wise: Coffee cake was good, but the cupcake was beyond average, and small. I recall they used to be bigger and cheaper too. The chocolate frosting was stiff and brittle, and although I can't confirm that meant they weren't "fresh", it certainly seemed that way (I'm not the only reviewer to notice this). The whole experience felt... Disappointing in a way.
I want to keep supporting this place, I really do. But today's visit confirmed my suspicions. I doubt I'll be back unless something changes.
Old Review: Bite Me is perhaps the greatest establishment that an individual suffering from Gluten Sensitivity or Celiac's Disease could ever hope to find. My family has been supporting BMC since she was selling locally at A-Market, and will continue to do so, as long as she keeps making delicious treats and unbelievably authentic "actual food" (like waffles, breakfast...
Read moreWe have been loyal customers of your bakery since 2019, frequently choosing your cupcakes for birthdays and special events. One of the things we’ve always appreciated is that your gluten-free cupcakes didn't taste gluten-free —something even our friends without dietary restrictions would regularly comment on.
Unfortunately, over the past two years, we’ve noticed a significant decline in quality. Despite continuing to support your bakery for birthdays and other occasions, the cupcakes we’ve purchased have consistently been dry, crumbly, and lacking the freshness we once loved. A few months ago, I called to share my concern after receiving cupcakes that were especially dry and had an unusual, almost spoiled taste. Although the staff member I spoke with kindly offered a refund, I wasn’t seeking compensation—just hoping to bring attention to an issue we’ve noticed.
Additionally, we’ve made several trips to the bakery during posted business hours only to find the store unexpectedly closed. On each of these occasions, there was no notice online or at the shop indicating the closure. This has been frustrating, especially when making a special trip or planning around a celebration.
Today, we picked up cupcakes for a family member’s celebration, and sadly, they once again tasted as though they were several days old and had been left out for hours. As a long-time customer, I genuinely hope improvements are being considered—for the sake of your customers and the reputation of your bakery.
We continue to value your commitment to accommodating food allergies, which is why we’ve remained loyal despite recent disappointments. However, it’s becoming harder to justify the cost when the quality no longer reflects what we’ve come to expect. I was hesitant to leave a public review, preferring instead to address concerns directly—but after seeing how feedback is sometimes received, I felt it necessary to share this in the hopes it will be taken constructively.
We truly hope to see positive changes, and wish you continued success in serving...
Read moreI first came to this bakery at the beginning of May for a friends’ bridal shower. The woman who helped me was lovely, and there was even an adorable husky who came to greet me. My friend really enjoyed the cupcakes. Now that her wedding is coming up in a few weeks, I decided to come back this past Saturday to ask for a 4” cake, vanilla with white frosting, to add on top of the large wedding cake (the 4” cake would be for her since she has gluten allergies). Unfortunately, my second experience here was not pleasant. When I walked in, there was a couple in front of me picking up an order. I guess something went wrong, and one of the women at the counter had no problem throwing their 14 year old employee right under the bus to these customers when the teen wasn’t even there (as far as I could tell). I thought that was very unprofessional. Then, it was my turn. I ordered a couple of cupcakes since I had my 8 year old with me. The woman who helped me with the cupcakes was very pleasant. I started to ask about the cake, and that’s when the not-so-nice woman came over and completely took over. She kept talking over me, didn’t seem to really listen when I did get to talk (completely mixing up what I was saying), seemed almost annoyed about what I was asking for, and then doubted me when I said that all I was looking for was a 4” vanilla cake with white frosting. “People say they want something super basic and then wind up sending a picture of something way more complicated.” I get that, I’m sure that’s frustrating, but I had explained that we already have a decorator, this was just a cake that was going on top of a larger one and that I just needed it to be white. No decorations, just smooth and white. But I guess that was still a problem so I just took the card she handed me and left. When I got back to my car, my 8 year old asked me “why was that woman so angry at you?” I love small businesses and support them when I can, but this...
