I usually give the benefit of the doubt, but in this instance my service and food were both red flags and I think this an opportunity for the restaurant to improve.
First, I called in for a takeout order. I ask for the Szechuan chicken and asked if I could upgrade the rice to lo mein. The waitress said to me, you have the wrong restaurant, we don’t have that. I said I’m looking at your website now, you don’t offer lo mein or Szechuan? She said no, was very confused. I even spelled it out and she said, uh?? No?? I said okay, I will just order online thank you, she hangs up. I wouldn’t have normally posted a review for something like this, I have no idea if the waitress new much English.
I order the Szechuan chicken on line, please see my receipt. They have me hunan chicken. Szechuan is cubed chicken and typically has no veggies, but has is suppose to have chilies. Hunan chicken contains stir-fried vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, and zucchini and is thinly sliced chicken (what they have me). Szechuan chicken has no veggies other than seasonings such as garlic, ginger and occasionally some green onion. They clearly gave me hunan and not what I asked for, they were either too lazy to cook what I wanted or just simply don’t care and don’t think the general public would know the difference.
Very disappointed and the food was bland, I had to add my own pepper flakes and bunch of soy. I also paid $40 and have a nice tip for two meals??? No. I will never return to this location. The lo mein was good, so it...
Read moreI usually don’t leave reviews, but my experience here was appalling to say the least. I had a waitress that took my order and another woman (most likely the owner), who brought the dishes out. When asking for to go boxes and the check, she stood over our table and watched us box the leftovers and eyed us down while we were pulling our payment out. I’ve never experienced this before. Usually, you would expect the server to step aside and give the customer a moment to gather their payment. There was no exemplary service, and we felt under pressure the whole time we were there to finish our meal as quickly as possible and leave. There were no offers to refill our waters as well. Because of this, I set out a 10% tip, at which point the owner publicly berated my party for being cheap and under-tipping. She even said “I brought you leftover boxes, why are you tipping so little” (Mind you, we were the ones that boxed our leftovers and bagged them up). She yelled at us to never come again. This was quite possibly the most sudden and outrageous experience we’ve ever had at a restaurant. I would recommend not to go solely on the service alone. I go ahead and check the other reviews below and see that there is a precedent of bugs in the vegetables as...
Read moreI wish I could give zero star for this restaurant.
Food here is average comparing with other Chinese restaurants in Phoenix, but the service here is horrible. Nobody came to add water or serve anything we need while we are eating. Two waitresses were sitting around the front desk, talking, watching the phone....
The worst thing is, when we checked out, they automatically added 18% tip to the food price. When I asked why the 18% was added to the food price, the customer was supposed to decide how much tip they would like to pay based on the service provided (no service at all). The old lady answered rudely, "all restaurants in phoenix do this....." What? such a lie! As a resident in Phoenix over 20 years, this was the first time that 18% tip was added mandatorily to my food price.
Bye bye, Green Tea Bistro. I wish we have never been here and paid...
