I love customers who blast small business owners. Being self employed is hard... owning a place in the bar biz is even harder. Bar employees never have same vision. Most want to make $125 in tips per shift. Once they make $125...Its lets leave and close early.... Bar customers..have the standard its perfect or free. So, these type of customers scan the menus for mistakes to take advantage. Owning a bar... is a lesson in insanity ..inventory, rent, long hours, small profit margin, cheap customers, employees, employees and did I mention employees? Add social media justice warriors and competitors who through your business under the review bus.
When you decide to spend your money at a small business. It means a lot and the stakes are very high for the owners. Most have invested money and long hours that you...the customer will never know or see. The customer is not always right.
So, my five stars..goes to the people who take the chance. That sign the lease, pay the bills and put in the hours. If mistakes are not for you...try Red Robin. Not me... I will always take the local place and its struggles.. good or bad. Yep, good or bad. I would rather have a place with character than an empty space on my corner.
To the owners.. fight the good fight.... Chase the dream. Owning a bar is expensive and time consuming. Hopefully your bank account...
Read moreMy wife and I were really excited to find a new place with great beer and a great atmosphere. However, the owners made a small error on their signs for happy hour pricing and it was all downhill when it came time to pay the check. It was probably an honest mistake, and when one of the owners saw me shaking my head as I left, he acted like he wanted to make it right, but then he said, "what, you want a three dollar beer?". Despite the implied insult of being cheap, I agreed to let him make it right by cancelling the first charge and giving me the discount that their largest sign (the only one I happened to pay attention to) clearly stated: "Happy hour pricing - $2 off of every draft beer." For a split second, I thought everything was settled to everyone's satisfaction. However, as I'm filling out the new charge slip, the female owner decides to lay into us about how cheap we are, saying, "what, $2 is going to break you!?" It was actually $4, and no that wasn't going to break us. The behavior of this lady after the other owner settled things to our satisfaction was appalling. If you want to make it in business, you've got to be able to own up to your mistakes with some sense of decency and humility. Both owners were insulting in how they handled this. I was willing to turn the other cheek the first time, but not twice...
Read moreTipsy is by far the best place to go for craft beer in Mesa... And even in the Phoenix Metro area! They beer selection is always fantastic, theres always a food truck there to tend to your munchies, and everyone that works there is beyond amazing. They are great at recommending a beer when you arent sure of which to chose, and also amazing at remember what beers you like when you frequent the tap room. The atmosphere is laid back, dogs are always welcomed and loved on, and the happy hour is the best in the valley! I recently moved from Az to Washington and the hardest part of moving was leaving Tipsy, no lie. We have yet to find a place in Wa that even comes close to being half as awesome as Tipsy. Please, if your looking for a good place to have good beer... Go to Tipsy. You will not be...
