If you’re looking for true, no-frills Mexican food bursting with flavor, Maria’s is the spot. This little hole-in-the-wall serves up some of the best, most authentic dishes I’ve had in a long time.

I went with the Bistec a la Mexicana, a spicy and delicious plate of tender steak cooked with tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños. The heat level was just right—enough to wake up my taste buds but not overpowering. The rice and beans on the side were perfectly cooked and full of that homemade taste that’s hard to find in bigger restaurants.

My boyfriend had the chile rellenos, and they were spot-on. The batter was light and the peppers were stuffed with gooey, melty cheese that oozed out with every bite. The green sauce on top added a nice depth of flavor without being too heavy.

And let’s talk about the corn tortillas—simple but fantastic. They had that fresh, slightly chewy texture that pairs perfectly with everything on the plate.

I was working in town so I came in for a breakfast burrito. They were very accommodating with my custom order. It was a breakfast burrito with chorizo, bacon, nopales and fries. If you're lucky, mini Maria will take your order and mama Maria will cook your food.
