I gave this place 4 starts in the past. My wife never liked this place and I'm starting to understand why. I was here for a late (3pm) lunch on a Monday. There was one table that had already finished eating. The owner at another table with friends. And two regulars with laptops using the bar as their office. There were two servers working when I got there. I sat at the bar and was greeted promptly and got a bourbon (well, old crow) and coke. $3.75 since it was happy hour. Had to ask for a menu. But then she never came back to ask if I had questions or if I wanted to order something. I'd say I sat there for a good 10-15min before she came back. Which isn't long if they were busy but they were not. What my server was busy with was talking to the other server and the regulars and bragging about buying a bottle of Weller Antique and how it wasn't going on the shelf. I've personally never even got to try Weller Antique because of people like this. I found her bragging in very poor taste. And she asked the owner if she could have/buy it and he said yes. She even offered one of the regulars some of it. I wasn't real hungry so I ordered the 8 wings, Hot. $9 happy hour price. ($11 regular) The wings were ok sized. But they were not fresh. I'd say they had been cooked off a day or two before I walked in. The sauce was cheap hot sauce + oil. After dropping my food my server left to run errands. She told the other server she was leaving and they joked about if she told her tables. She didn't. And the other server despite working behind the bar and despite my empty glass and despite me looking in her direction... she never came over. Maybe for the first time in my life I had to actually yell. Excuse me, can I get another drink? Still no how is the food, can I get you anything else. The website says "A place to be appreciated" my experience was miles from this. And mind you this was all happening with the owner sitting maybe 10 feet from me. After I finished my wings and second drink I waited for another 10-15min (much of it standing with wallet in hand) before the server came back (with check in hand) and asked if I wanted another drink. Before I left the server went over to the owner and told him she was going upstairs to flip a breaker because the beer is warm. Ha. The fact that she was leaving the floor to do this rather than asking the owner to take care of it speaks volumes. I dropped my review to 2 stars. They earned one in the past. Some of the food I've had here in the past was good. The service has always been slow but this was a new low. I doubt I'll ever go back which makes me sad since I live 7min away. Would love to see...
Read moreIn 2018, I wrote a review for Kirby's "Truly excellent fish and chips ( even if they call it the cod plate). Service always seems above average, and prices are reasonable." Now, in 2023, I feel they have turned a corner and not for the better. I recently stopped in once again for the fish & and chips, and my son loves their burgers. I like to order to go at the bar and have a beer while I wait. When I got home, I didn't have a problem with the taste, but I did have a problem with the portion size, especially the fries. I think there were 12 or 14 fries and not the big chips, just skinny fries!
I called to let them know something had obviously gone wrong, only to be told I got what they intended to give me. I told them I'd been going there for years, and that isn't how they did things. She then told me she was the owner, and that is how they were doing thing now! I guess I can't argue with that! (I did note my fry cutter makes 36+ fries per potato.) I drove by yesterday and thought to stop in, have a beer, and get carry-out, but then I remember last time and just drove by. It made me sad. I was super excited when they opened and was a hugh fan. Not...
Read moreWent to Kirby's tonight and my wife found an ant crawling in her food. Have been to many restaurants over the years and this is a 1st for us. Maybe to some that's not a big deal but this is a restaurant so to me insects of any kind in food is not acceptable. They waitress did offer a new order and she did comp our 6.99 potato skins. Personally I considered that to be a little insulting. If 7 bucks meant that much I wouldnt have been there in the 1st place. Sorry no one actually cares about 7 whole dollars and money isn't the issue. It's the fact of what happened. To me the manager should have been notified and should have talked to us. Waitress acted like well it happens, it sure does outside at a picnic. If I owned a restaurant no way in the world a customer would have paid for one dime of that dinner. Not because of money just pure embarrassment and I would have offered another free one hoping for another shot to redeem myself. Oh well that's just my opinion. Wont be back, and would not recommend unless you dont mind a little extra...
