Update: We enjoyed the Royal High Tea service on Saturday. It was absolutely lovely! There were 11 of us that came to celebrate a bride to be. The table was beautifully decorated with vases of flowers and tea cups of different designs. I shared a picture of the tower of food that is shared by 2 people. Started with a glass of champagne, a salad, the towers were brought out, then the tea. Be prepared to be adventurous in tasting food you may have never had before. We had wonderful service. Reservations are required for this service that is available on Saturdays. A big thank you to Monica for making our day special!
First visit to LaEmbajafa. The decor is very inviting and feels a bit like home. Started with an appetizer, Arancini. This is a fried rice ball served on a bed of tomato based sauce. These were very good. My entree was the Lamb Jollaf. West Frican rice with pieces of lamb served in a bowl. This dish was absolutely delicious! For dessert, we ordered Beignets Criollas. Fried puff pastry served with cream and blackberries. A great dish to finish our meal with a cup of coffee! At this time, they only serve wine and non-alcoholic beer. They are hoping to have their liquor license soon. There is a cooler/freezer where you can purchase food items prepared for you that you can take home and prepare to eat. There was a table behind us that had ordered the Royal High Tea. A beautiful presentation! This is a reservation only service. See the menu page for more information on this service. There is a lot to choose from the menu. A few items on the kids' menu. Family friendly. It took us close to an hour to drive to the restaurant, and we will...
Read moreThe first thing at La Embajada is that you may very well get served by a woman that is extremely excited about sharing her culture with the rest of the world. I think the other was typically the main one and they shared the work, but either way there was clear passion here.
Was suggested that the two of us split a sampler and some empanadas, so we did that. It started with a salad (with interesting things like potato straws and avocado) with an interesting papaya dressing, which made it stand out from most places. The empanadas here are rather small so don’t be afraid to order some to split. Beef one’s apparently the standard and was my favorite of the two, while chorizo was still good but a bit saltier than I expected even after being told it would be. Provencal Fries were tasty, not a giant upgrade over just fries but the fries were good enough themselves that most things would work on them.
Meat had three picks. There was a strip steak that was quite tender. The short ribs were definitely harder to eat. Plenty of flavor but you’ll have to work for it. My favorite, surprisingly, was the chorizo, which was somehow much less salty on its own than in the empanada. There was also a side of what looked like marmalade, and the pairing actually worked.
Ended with churros, which were huge and filled with what I’m guessing is dulce de leche. I would love to eat it again if I could, so if that’s your sort of thing it is very worth it.
This is a place to go occasionally as it can be a bit expensive depending on what you get, but quality is worth it here. I wish it wasn’t 40 minutes away from me, but maybe I’ll be in the right place to go...
Read moreAmazing! We will be back! We came here for lunch totally last minute - yummiest split moment decision! The empanadas are the best I've ever had. We tried beef, liverwurst, and spicy beef with chimchurri sauce. It was SO GOOD. They're each HANDMADE and deep fried but the inside is still so juicy. So so good. For lunch, we got the Sabor Quisqueya (plantain cups with shrimp, chicken, and corn). I believe this dish has more more of a Dominican Republic influence. My husband got the Moros, Cristianos, Y Polacos which is a specific creation of this restaurant - he loved it it! It was a rice bowl with cabbage, black beans, bacon, and a skinny polish sausage I've never seen elsewhere. The spices were perfect. We normally never get dessert when we go anywhere, but we had to try the banana/hazelnut empanada. Probably one of the best desserts I've ever put in my mouth, even if it isn't "authentic Argentine". I want to come back for dinner one day and try the steaks and get a churro with ice cream! Also, my toddler liked everything (but she's not picky) but especially the yuca fries and the agua fresca which was a hibiscus infused fruit drink. The inside is also very clean and welcoming. It'd be a cute place for a brunch or date, too. The server, Martina, was very nice and eager to explain everything as well as give great recommendations. I'm not sure of the name of the other lady but she reminds me of a very happy grandma that was so excited to share and explain. She was also so sweet to my toddler! Everyone was just lovely and the food was so good! My husband hasn't stopped talking about it all day! I want like 20...
