Ok, let me cover everything I can. Place is clean and pretty. (Not that I base many dining decisions on looks) Door dash, carry-out etc..NO ONE cares about you (at least they shouldn't). Restaurants are good DINING IN.... but IF there was no carry-out or deliver etc then a certain % of those people would eat in and that would be more people vlogging up the places for the die hard inside diners who deserve all the best service. Yeah, I'm a little odd, but right. The ADA accessible complaint - maybe more the building center's responsibility but I'm assuming the city signed off on it so there is probably a ramp further down to that same piece or raised sidewalk but regardless, things happen and people who have limitations (we all will eventually) need to accept that not every place is as ideal as the best ones and find a way to make it tolerable or go elsewhere. --Too rude yet? Nope just realistic. The plastic-ware germophobe lady... You should never eat out. If you only knew what the commercial food industry is really like.... I'll leave it right there.
BUT this takes us into the real problem with this location!!n The management insuring on everything being "their way" is a common theme here While I have always had good to great food, the service is often lackluster and it seems to flow downward from management. I feel it's a owner/manager situation. One of those where the owner is way too involved in EVERY action that occurs and micro-manages everything and everyone and even decided they are going to do their way because it's their business etc. This doesn't fly with a lot of customers IF they ever sense this or figure it out.
I've never wanted or needed to "speak to the manager" because I stick the metal forks they give me into my mouth so my only interactions have been with servers (host I guess too but nothing to mention there).
"Some" servers are good to great and pleasant but far too many seem to have a little too much attitude. Just the little things and demeanor. You feel a slight to moderate tension in the air most all the time. Most seem not too happy to be there. Not friendly or helpful as you would expect but almost more combative. A lot of this comes from the management again and the store "policies". This substitution recurring problem!! Personally never had an issue because I don't sub anything...I add extra things on as I'm there to pig out and fully enjoy my meal and eating experience. But this is a BIG issue here and they are adamant that they are NOT going to sub much of anything SOOOOO it would be so much easier to just add a sub or upcharge for the change. People can't stand to be told what to do, or what they can't do, or to be told no but they will easily pay $.50, $.75, or $1.00 to get what they want. This way store makes more money and the other item isn't wasted and customer isn't getting "stuck with" something that can't eat or don't want. Unfortunately this not wanting to sub or upcharge is too common in breakfast but rarely in lunch or dinner selections Seen it 1000 times with pancakes. I have no use for them. Many will sub a waffle but it's the end of the world to consider french toast in place of for most breakfast places. Reduce the slices vs the number or pancakes....or get this - if an order of 3 pancakes is $2 less than a 3 order of French toast then add the $2 difference. Still, many places won't do it so I have not made a habit of eating at a lot of breakfast places.
This place would be much better served to appreciate the customer more instead of just appreciating the customer's money or their business or at least at like it. Some people are just better at the hospitality business than others.
But either...
Read moreVery frustrating experience : (. Had high hopes for the restaurant, and had only heard good things. Stopped in around noon for a late breakfast with a friend, we ordered the crab cake Benedict and the Westgate. The westgate was appropriately good, no complaints, but the Benedict was strong smelling of seafood and tasted like overcooked canned tuna. The crab itself was dark grey and burnt brown on about half of the surface of it. We split one of the crab cakes in half and both tried two bites to have a fair evaluation of it, and both agreed it tasted and smelled rather bad (for us; everyone's taste buds are different). We set the rest of the plate aside, and split the Westgate, which was quite good. Our coffee was originally burnt, but after mentioning it about 10 minutes later when we were checked on, they replaced it with fresh coffee, which was very good.
when we informed the server (Amy) that the crab cakes were pretty bad (and were very nice, stating the rest was delicious and the service had been great so far), she took them and informed the chefs of it. Our bill came later, and no adjustment had been made for a quarter eaten meal that customers considered bad. we politely informed our server that it didn't seem appropriate to charge customers 100% of the plate cost when it wasn't eaten and considered bad, which she replied with "Oh I'm sorry, I thought the manager had changed it, I was busy and didn't notice. I'll get her to do it". Perfect response, everything would be fine at that point.
Manager comes over, a lady, cannot remember her name and not written on the receipt, and states "Is there something I can help you with?". we informed the manager of not enjoying one meal and that the crab seemed overcooked. The manager stated "well I checked with the chefs, the crab is fine and we had checked it earlier today too when it was cooked (so I guess they cook all their crab earlier in the day?), and nothing is wrong with it. So you still want me to take off half the price?". She was flat in affect, didn't apologize once, and made it seem like we were being a nuisance or trying to get a cheaper meal. I simply said "that seems appropriate and fair, since everything else was good". She said OK and walked off quickly. After about a five minute wait, our server came back and handed us the bill without saying anything, and carried a conversation with another staff member halfway across the restaurant. No thank you, have a good day, nothing, just handed the bill. In her defense, when we were about to leave, she did say goodbye and sorry for the issues.
My friend and I have worked a combined total of 9 years as servers. On principle, I tipped the server 20% on the original cost, pre deduction. It isn't right to charge customers 100% cost of an item if they barely eat it due to it tasting bad to them. I would've been completely happy with 50% off, or just replacing the meal with something else. What made me most upset is the managers response to the situation; it was unprofessional and accusatory. I didn't say the food (that I barely ate) tasted bad to get a cheaper meal; I said it because it tasted awful and smelled of cat food.
This was a very disappointing experience; scrambler maries is a beautiful restaurant with great looking items on the menu (including the Westgate that we had), and fell short due to poor customer service and management, all over a deduction of $4.74. I would have paid double that just to have a better experience in friendliness and...
Read moreWent for Father’s Day. Called in ahead of time to be put on waitlist, was told over the phone no wait, come right in we will seat you immediately. The hostess continued to say even if there’s a wait when you get here, you will still be sat immediately since you did the call ahead. Arrived less than 5 minutes later and was not sat. Was told we had to wait 20 minutes while we watched over a dozen people get sat in front of us. Got to our table. I told the server I and my sister had severe melon allergies and to not bring fruit to the table. She brought the fruit cup to the table. I was the last to get my food and when I got it, it was cold. They finally brought me a new waffle 20 minutes later, but by that time, my family was done eating. The manager took it off. When we got our checks, we were charged for an extra drink. My nephew with special needs ordered a kids meal. The serve NEVER asked us what he would like to drink. She then asked my other nephew what he wanted and asked my sister if this was a kids meal. My sister said yes. She brought him a kids drink, but then charged us for adult pancakes. My nephew ate them, so we weren’t upset about that. However, we were upset that the server and the manager tried to charge us for an extra drink and when we questioned the bill, the manager said the drink had to be consumed by the kid or it would be an adult. The server never asked my nephew what he wanted to drink nor did she even bother to bring him a water. The manager finally copped an attitude and took it off. Absolutely ridiculous. Disgusting behavior by both the manager and server. You should be ashamed...
