Happiness comes in many shades.
Whilst on my whirlwind 4 day Cubs mania at Marlins Park, I quickly learned that Little Havana is right next to the stadium! Armed with this knowledge, I decided to look up some very bodacious food in the neighborhood because parking was less than one mile away! There is something about Miami - people don't like to walk more than one mile!
With Flagler under heavy construction, I once again found myself leapfrogging through traffic and into torn down streets ready to be repaved. I walked past this little clothing store that was blasting music on the maximum with a large speaker on the outside. I found the neon sign, I found La Camaronera Seafood Joint & Fish Market.
Much to my dismay - it was cash only! I did not see an ATM (although there is one in the back) and desperately wandered into the little supermercado next door and found no ATM! I went across the street and grabbed some cash and headed back to get my grub on!
Wonderfully, I smelled fresh seafood and became very excited. One thing about living in Southern Florida is that there is no absence of fresh seafood! Seeing all of these wonderful seafood dishes flashing before my eyes I couldn't decide!
It didn't matter to me, it was written before I stepped foot in that fate would call upon me to order big and order heavy. I went with crispy fried shrimp, fried oysters, and a shrimp empanada.
Fried Shrimp - This was a dish well worth the walk in the heat, jumping through traffic. The shrimp was fresh, the breading was crispy, and the lime offered a freshness that just made every bite that much more enjoyable.
Fried Oysters - I love oysters! Fry them up and I love them even more! The oysters were juicy and fresh, served with slices of lime that made me just want to eat more and more. I could not believe I ate both the fried shrimp and oyster but when you are food adventuring you must accept no limits.
Shrimp Empanada - Crispy but a bit underfilled, this dish was the least impressive of the day, but the other two dishes were a home run.
What is great when you are in a new city is finding something very delicious without anyone telling you its delicious. What's even better is ordering the goods without messing up without anyone telling you what to order. You can read a thousand reviews and check out hundreds of pictures, but nothing really beats being there. You'll feel the same way about La Cameronera, it is a gem and an institution for...
Read moreWow, wow, wow! I'm surprised I've never eaten at this Miami treasure before----known for its Cuban styled seafood like the pan con minuta in which I came to try! Came on a weekday during lunch hours and the place was pretty busy. We had to find street parking since the small parking lot out front was full which was easy on the block adjacent to this shopping center. Though they have plenty of seating I could see this restaurant getting hectic during prime hours so heads up!
My boyfriend and I were starving so we decided to try three different sandwiches to share: the camaraonera (fried shrimp) $7.95, the corvina $7.75, and the famed pan con minuta (snapper) $7.95. None of their sandwiches come with a side so we also the yellow rice which was phenomenal and had so much flavor----I have a keen feeling they use their grouper broth to make it! All of their sandwiches were exceptional and I highly recommend any of them though for some reason I especially loved the corvina sandwich. They use fresh cuban bread and minimal toppings to deliver a simple sandwich that focuses on the quality of their seafood! We felt our whole meal was very satisfying and after eyeing other peoples tables, our only regret was not ordering the shrimp burrito that looked insanely delicious which I will most definitely be back to try!
The service was also extremely attentive, knowledgeable, quick, and very friendly! They have plenty of staff which I appreciated since we were so hungry---our food came out faster than most restaurants I've been too so you know this restaurant has their operation down to a science. I also noted that our server spoke perfect spanish and english which in that part of town can be hard to find, making our experience run smoothly.
I highly highly recommend eating here as I truly loved it and can't wait to come back for more delicious seafood...
Read moreHonest review! Parking was a bit of a hassle because its in a small area next to a supermarket. Customer service upon arriving was okay. We went around 1230pm So it was not packed, plenty of open tables we got seated right way. There was two waiters taking orders and at one point they forgot about my table party of two so we waited about 15 for drinks and to place and order. Placing order was simple, food came out after I will say less than 20 mins. We only ordered two things. A fish broth and their loaded minuta sandwich combo, which I choose tostones for a side. They do have a special going on if you buy a sandwich combo you get a free soda.
Food review: Soup was tasteless! If you are suffering from high blood pressure and are in a low salt diet then this soup is perfect for you. Keep in mind it's an orange-looking broth with nothing in it but small pieces of doodle pasta.. Like the abc noodles but these are really small.
The loaded Minuta fish sandwich Came with a friend lightly battered tail on fillet of fish on a not toasted Cuban bun loaded with tomatoes raw onions and lettuce topped with their house version of tartar sauce! NO FLAVOR!!! I repeat if you suffer from high blood pressure or on a no salt no seasoning diet this place is for you! I could not eat it due to lack of flavor. I honestly went to the bathroom and threw up. The only thing that was good on the plate was th friend Hawaiian plantains that again I had to add salt.
I only came to this place because of Mark Weins and Davidsbeenhere But I don't know if they got paid or their food was free because honey that food was tasteless! I can say the fish was fresh it didn't smell so that's the only thing they got right. This is my honest review and sorry for any inconvenience...
